Tareq Amin The AI future is expected to significantly impact professionals by creating new job roles, especially in tech, and transforming existing ones across various industries. This includes a surge in demand for AI-related skills such as machine learning and natural language processing. Additionally, AI is set to enhance productivity and address societal challenges, although it also poses challenges in terms of job displacement and skill shifts.

Last week I’ve had the best opportunity of my career so far… I travelled to South Korea on a business trip to visit one of our esteemed customer Hanwha Power System. The motive of this meeting was to evaluate current projects we are executing together for AMIRAL and ARAMCO along with upcoming opportunities which will surely strengthen our business together even further. Here are three reasons why I think these customer visits are important. Customer Insights: Direct interaction with customers provides valuable insights into their needs and preferences. Brand Perception: Observing how the brand is perceived in the market and staying updated on local trends and cultural nuances is crucial. Enriched learnings: Experiences and opportunities to establish deeper connections with the customer. We took the time to get to know each other’s businesses better, shared insights from previous projects, and discussed strategies for upcoming future collaborations. Retrechment is a Norm in the Industries: (1) No one is indispensable in any Organisations.  (2) Even as big as Petronas, last time they retrenched Staff from about 53,000 worldwide to 47,000  ranging from Executives to General Managers as they are currently. Currently with the issue of Sarawak Province with Petronas regarding Oil & Gas aggregation, some billions of ringgit of Petronas revenues will be at stake. We may expect restructuring, merging, downsizing, manpower right sizing, capex budgets scaleback, staff relocation, recruitment halt in Petronas. Ripples effect, some of Petronas Contractors and Vendors will be impacted as well.  (3) How to sustain your employment in any Organisations? Be deligent, resilient, hardworking, relevant, humble, perseverent, meet new challenges, broaden network, closing all technical gaps and management gaps, acquiring new skills and Industrial or professional certificates.  (4) Strive to be amongst high performers of 20 % instead of mediocres - average performers of 70 %. During performance appraisals and ranking exercises, the bottom 10 % might be categorised as " Below Performers" eventhough they actually meet minimum requirements of KPI of the company.

"What is the chance of being absorbed as an employee after completing the PETRONAS GEES program?" This is the most frequently asked questions that PakTam always receives. Let me share my personal view on this programme: 1. PETRONAS GEES is part of the PROTEGE program initiated by the Malaysia government to enhance employability and entrepreneurship skills among Malaysian graduates (reference: http://protege.gov.my/www/). 2. So, PROTEGE is a training program with a monthly allowance. It does not constitute full employment and is not governed by the Malaysia Employment Act 1955. 3. Therefore, while there is an opportunity to be hired as an employee, it is not guaranteed. There have been cases where 30% were hired, either on a permanent or contract basis, and cases where none were hired (0%). It is all based on business decision. 4. Since this is a training program, it is best to showcase your best behavior, learning agility, and skills development throughout the program. The top-performing trainees will certainly be considered for future opportunities, insha Allah. 5. Technical Career Ladder for Engineers in Petronas : (1) Starting January 2023, all Senior Engineers of Petronas who wanna be promoted as Technical Managers & HSE Managers must pass their Technical Professional Assessments ( Petronas Internal).  (2) Normally, once Engineers reaching their Senior Executives Level, they may apply for the Technical Professional Assessments.  (3) Equivalent salaries : Technical Professionals = Managers Principals = Senior Managers  Custodians : General Managers (4) Some Professionals prefer to be in Technical Ladder instead of Managerial Ladder; their prerogatives.  (5) Those Specialists from the Oil Majors such as ExxonMobil or Shell must also pass Petronas Technical Professional Assessments in order to assume roles as Technical Profesionals.  (6) Most of the Technical Professionals will be under PD&T at KLCC, no longer stationed at the respective Operating Units like before.  (7) Those Technical Professionals who resign Petronas and wanna migrate to Middle East will be paid handsomely as Expatriates. Upon being worked there for at least 5 years, they may rejoin Petronas as Contract Staff, highly paid huh. 😂
