Hydraulic fracturing is used to enhance the movability of hydrocarbon fluids that are trapped in the reservoir. However it has risks if not done with a lot of caution. 1- it can cause intermixing of oil and gas and may lead to the loss of the interface between gas on top of the oil 2- it can cause the oil or gas to escape into a nearby fault especially if the hydrocarbon trap is under high pressure 3- if millions water gallons are pumped into the formation , a subsurface tremmor may occur especially at a nearby fault. 4- Fracturing can be replaced with acidizing jobs that are more effective and less risky and more gas will be produced nice and easy . The University of Bergen, with researchers like Prof. Inga Berre, is working on stimulating geothermal reservoirs. Fortunately, there is a lot of heat to be extracted beneath 🇸🇦.
