IIT Kharagpur has so many societies that you could create an entire periodic table, yet students still struggle to join them. In every college, 1st and 2nd-year students often feel FOMO about joining XYZ societies and clubs but how much adds value to college life? 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬 ➤ It prevents you from isolating yourself academically and socially from the campus, providing external motivation to engage in routine activities, but at the same time, it leads to time-consuming, unproductive 𝐦𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 and tasks. ➤ Join if you're genuinely interested or want to explore them, but don’t join just for 𝐂𝐕 points & improve your tech skills. In most cases, 𝐏𝐎𝐑 adds little value in placements/interns but yeah Once you're in, it can be a trap that's hard to leave. ➤ Societies are meant to build self-𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 skills, but often you either lack the 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐨𝐦 to innovate or end up just following the same old ways. ➤ It's a great way to meet people with similar interests and build a support network for both the short and long term, However, it can feel like working in a call center, with 𝐭𝐨𝐱𝐢𝐜 environments, unnecessary deadlines, tasks, and added mental stress. Getting involved in the right campus activities can boost students’ happiness and success in college but nowadays, these societies/cells have started controlling life indirectly, exploiting you like a 𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐝 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐞. 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭: List your priorities and make decisions accordingly. Don’t rush to join societies/cells just because your friends are doing it, or someone is pushing you, and never compromise your personal goals for these activities. I failed to qualify for IIT-JEE by lots of marks ☹️ because I didn’t prepare for it. . . . Getting into IIT was like everyone's my dream too. Not just for me, but this dream shatters for millions every year.📈 What I lost by not getting a IIT ?? Now I can say nothing as such but few things which I need to highlight is: I didn’t explore much on sports ⚽️ I didn’t get good campus I didn’t get a highly qualified teacher I didn’t get a good food. I didn’t get a good placement in top companies. But this all you can achieve without IIT degree also. Now a days people’s selling the dreams of IIT and crore of placement that is totally misguiding students and parents. Hope you will understand and don’t be influenced by today worlds. One of the amazing post I have seen regarding the Cell/Societies in each and every Engineering College. According to me every first year or second year student should be aware of all those beliefs related to it. Hariom .

Nobody gave me the IIT degree. I earned it. I made so many sacrifices in life. I worked hard through all my teenage years to reach IIT Delhi. And from that point onwards, I helped hundreds of students reach IIT. I have seen people’s lives change just by getting into their dream college. And that has been my goal ever since. Today, I am running a company where 180+ people find their employment and career growth. But then, somebody comes up who: - does not understand sarcasm - does not have enough exposure - has not read much - has zero experience with the startup world - does not understand someone’s thought process - is not an IITian But unlike him, I succeed in all these parameters. And yet, without a second thought, he questions how I got the IIT degree. No one *gets* an IIT degree. Every part of it is earned. And it is earned the hard way.

As my journey at IIT Delhi ends, I'm grateful for the invaluable lessons that have shaped me, and reflecting on this beautiful chapter, here are some key learnings that I was fortunate enough to gather: •“Balancing Academics”: After admission into IIT, most students tend to relax while trying to adjust to the newfound campus life, and in the meanwhile the most essential aspect of IIT drifts away. Academics take a back seat while fun becomes a priority, but it is better to realize sooner that CGPA plays a more important role than we believe it does. •“The more, the better delusion”: Yes, I am talking about PoRs. A smart senior saved me from this never-ending loop at IIT-D, where you are invested in getting into as many clubs as possible to fill up your CVs with POR points. It is better to join the clubs you are passionate about and work diligently to grab top spots than to be in multiple clubs and work in none. •“Prioritize what is important”: College is a sea of opportunities, and you can’t grab all of them, so it is better to prioritize what matters to you the most, which is subjective and can vary from person to person. I have seen 7-pointers with better placements than 9-pointers, and what they did better was to prioritize what they were good at. •“Being introverted might hurt”: The best thing college offers is the personality development course where you don’t have to stress about scoring well. All you must do is be open to new experiences and leave your introverted self behind. •“Stay Positive”: Not all experiences will be good, and some might be worse than what you can imagine, but then again, you are not alone in this. Stay optimistic. If things don’t turn out how you expected them to be, something better might be waiting around the corner. Thank You! Perfect CGPA comes from latest and best thoughts with proof and references and cross reference to things others dont know. Ideas may come from a tweet by a great teacher sharing a paper thats unique. Ashneer Grover hated losing marks. And when real life came knocking ? He had to be first there too , so he learned everything- theorised and experimented to his satisfaction with all that he could learn and then his own thoughts added to it and mastered the art and science both - and - his brain-mind , had books-solutions of everykind in it. Backed by all the technology and numbers- he convinced all stakeholders to what he was doing. Bharat pe - was his idea. He linked his skillset to a real life #entrepreneurialengineering gig. He knew all the technology and all of the market , #consumers, #numbers, #regulations = #everything ! CGPA = EVERYTHING ABOUT EVERYTHING . Not CGPA = HIGH SCORE. High CGPA comes when you actually know everything. Problem 1:- Your brother - does not want to study while you are at #IIT (You study for parents to smile). But then - your brother also loves your parents ! Whats going on ? This is #life, #engineering, high cgpa, #structuralintegrity = setting bro on right path! Solution ? Study #behavioralneurology - watch your brother and spend two days with him , one on one. Tell him your thoughts like you were a #behavioralcognitivetherapist. But, make sure its not gyan. Tell him - how much you notice next door - Shilpa. Or Kohli. But, you also notice baba and amma. - Their happiness is higher than - Indian Cricket team or Shilpa-> To you. So- ask your brother - Shilpa eats needs doctor- and soon will scream too or her kids will. Kohli - bought cricket bats - we have no money. Yet, if you want Cricket , then- practice day in day out, I shall support you and take thappars that come our way. But, there will be no thappar because I get highest CGPA and I will do even better so that you can achieve your dreams . Choose - #Acting ? #Singing ? #Cricket ? I am there for you ! There's a stereotype about IITians keep mentioning their IIT background in conversation. But before we dissect why this might happen, let's look at the flip side: why could it actually be a good thing? → Cracking the IIT-JEE is notoriously tough. Mentioning IIT can be a way for students to acknowledge the hard work and dedication it took to get there. → IITs are premier institutions, and graduating from one signifies strong academic ability. It can open doors to opportunities and build trust. → IIT alumni have a strong network. Mentioning IIT can be a way to connect with others who share a similar experience. → Getting into an IIT is a significant achievement. Talking about it can be a natural confidence booster. But of course, there's a difference between pride and arrogance. Ideally, mentioning IIT should be a part of introducing yourself, not the entirety of your personality. Ultimately, being an IITian is a great accomplishment. But remember, your value comes from your experiences, skills, and how you treat others. #IIT #IITian #stories
