  🎐𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀? 𝘼 𝙢𝙚𝙩𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙨𝙩'𝙨 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 In these times of resolutions for better health and better life, the question will resonate with many. The answer to some extent is 'yes'. Especially if you feel that you need the physical activity, it will likely do you good. 🏓 For example, I recently discovered squash, a sport that I pictured as mostly violent and really REALLY not for me. But it turns out I love squash!❤ This sport has everything to make sure I won't easily give up: 🛣 a limited surface… so I'll run, but not endlessly, 🎾 simple and portable equipment, 🤹♀️ and - my personal favorite, even if my usual partner is not available, I can still have a decent time by myself! From the #metabolomist ’s point of view, exercise is of course a huge influence on our metabolism, and the metabolic profile of #athletes is drastically different from that of more sedentary people. Endurance sports can greatly benefit from biomarker testing by providing athletes with insights into their health and performance. This testing can help in optimizing training, improving recovery, and preventing injuries by tracking key health indicators. 📍 Prof. Dr. Henry Völzke, University of Medicine Greifswald, the Coordinator of the EUthyroid2 project, participated as a speaker at the 46th European Thyroid Association Annual Meeting, at the IGN Meeting, September 7, in Athens, Greece. 📍Prof. Dr. Völzke presented the EUthyroid2 project and highlighted that: 📌the first EUthyroid project drew attention to the situation in Europe, emphasising that up to 50% of the region's newborns are at risk of iodine deficiency. 📌the EUthyroid2 project aims to increase awareness of iodine-related health risks, especially in adolescents and young women to ensure the prevention of iodine deficiency in Europe and beyond. This week, we’re rereleasing episode #201 of The Drive, with Iñigo San-Millán, Ph.D. In this episode, Iñigo describes how his work with Tour de France winner Tadej Pogačar has provided insights into the amazing potential of elite athletes from a performance and metabolic perspective. He speaks specifically about lactate levels, fat oxidation, how carbohydrates in food can affect our lactate and how equal lactate outputs between an athlete and a metabolically unhealthy individual can mean different things. Next, he discusses how Zone 2 training boosts mitochondrial function and impacts longevity. He explains the different metrics for assessing one’s Zone 2 threshold and describes the optimal dose, frequency, duration, and type of exercise for Zone 2. Additionally, he offers his thoughts on how to incorporate high intensity training (Zone 5) to optimize health, as well as the potential of metformin and NAD to boost mitochondrial health. Finally, he discusses insights he’s gathered from studying the mitochondria of long COVID patients in the ICU. UBIQUINOL plasma levels support SOCCER players' PERFORMANCE over multiple seasons. Maintaining blood levels of Ubiquinol may help enhance the performance of professional soccer players, while supporting healthy muscle tissue and function.  This is according to a recent study where, for the first time, researchers measured plasma levels across two consecutive and strenuous soccer competition seasons.   This observational study had the unique objective of measuring plasma levels for Ubiquinol, stress and muscle tissue markers in 377 professional soccer players of the Spanish First League team Athletic Club de Bilbao.  Soccer matches can cause acute and long-lasting tiredness with reduced aerobic endurance and increased inflammatory and muscle tissue changes. Most research looking at Ubiquinol for supporting muscle function and exercise performance is short-term, covering only a single bout of exercise, one match or a series of exercise. It also often analyses the effects of supplementation only, in varying doses, without using the bioavailable Ubiquinol or looking at plasma levels. In this study, researchers looked at two consecutive seasons of intense competition, and found that higher plasma Ubiquinol levels were associated with lower muscle inflammation, supported healthy muscle tissue markers, and may help improve the physical performance of these players, especially at the hardest part of the season.   Ubiquinol is a naturally occurring and bioavailable antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, which decreases free radical damage in muscle and other body cells. It is also crucial within the mitochondria to support energy production.  Soccer competitions are physically demanding with research showing strenuous exercise can affect the body’s levels of this important nutrient. All body cells can make Ubiquinol; however, plasma levels are associated with nutritional intake.  Therefore, before sending yourself or your professional soccer players out in the field, consider supporting the body’s Ubiquinol levels to help kick some energy and performance goals this season.   .
