Here is an astonishing fact: When I ask people in my creativity speeches if they can think of a profession where people should NOT be creative, the second (!) most common answer is “Doctors!”. (The most common answer is “Pilots.”) Every time I meet doctors, I tell them this, and they ALWAYS react the same way: Shocked and disappointed. Today, I had a knee operation, and I asked my doctor of anesthetics, Jan, what he thought about people thinking doctors don't need to be creative. He said: “Of course doctors need to be creative! We have to be creative to inflict the least possible disturbance to the body while making it heal - that requires extreme creativity. Medicine is an art! ” Actually, the Swedish word for “medicine” (not the pill but the science or practice of the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease) is “läkekonst” - which literally translates to “The art of healing”. Introducing a new procedure at KEDAH MEDICAL CENTRE - Catheter Directed Thrombolysis. A recent case involved a morbidly obese lady with marked right leg swelling. Ultrasound revealed significant venous thrombosis from external iliac vein to popliteal vein, including the superficial great saphenous vein. Few things in my mind 1. The leg was cold 2. Phlegmasia cerulea dolens was an alarming concern 3. Not sure any dose of DOAC for her big size 4. Venous valve damage if failed recanalization After catheter placement, Alteplase infusion was given. I am happy to know she is now well on follow up.
