I am excited to share this paper co-authored by 20 PROMIS National Centers across the world. We present a harmonized global approach to international standardization of PROs and PROMs, based on the #PROMIS measurement system. There is growing evidence that outcomes such as pain, fatigue, anxiety, depression, sleep disturbance, physical function, and the ability to participate in social roles and activities are relevant for most people, irrespective of their health condition. Measuring these outcomes routinely in all patients with PROMIS could increase outcome comparability and utility for a range of stakeholders. https://lnkd.in/eTdQJ89T

As the US faces many health crises despite significant technological advances, no better time for clinicians to work with the FDA. In Harlan Krumholz's inaugural issue of JACC Journals, I am honored to describe w/ Commissioner Robert Califf how all clinicians, especially the CV community can engage w/ FDA to advance public health. Evidence generation, patient-focused engagement and AI and digital health are essential domains. You can read the full article in a great issue 👇 https://lnkd.in/eiKs9zSY

Since 1976, the World Health Organization has supported the development and integration of traditional medicine into healthcare systems. Public health policies, which are at the core of this subject, must be guided by research findings. It is in this context that the following event will take place on Tuesday January 23 : "Integration of Traditional, Complementary, and Integrative Medicine (TCIM) in the Institutionalization of Evidence-Informed Decision-making" An event that we will be following with great interest. A new study published in JAMA reveals what #WholePerson health care providers have long believed to be true: Physician empathy is associated with better outcomes among patients with #ChronicPain. In the paper, the researchers write: “An aspirational view is that empathy should not be limited to individual practitioners but should be incorporated within the broader domain of health care systems. Such systems would be structured and organized to facilitate empathic health care delivery using macro-level decisions involving political and jurisdictional considerations.” Embedding empathy into our health care systems is what will put the healing back into medicine. Have you experienced the impact of empathy in your practice? Please share your thoughts below. 🔊 New Publication Alert 🔊 It was great to work with colleagues across the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) to share the perspective of the importance of collaboration and moving beyond siloes to advance health equity and address the social and structural determinants of cardiovascular disease. The JACC Advances article calls for multisectoral and multidisciplinary approaches in healthcare and research and the critical role of authentic community engagement. 💡 It concludes "....achieving health equity, through research or clinical care, requires moving beyond siloes and collaborating across sectors, disciplines, and areas of specialization. For NHLBI, this includes enhancing partnerships among federal or local governments, encouraging multisectoral research that targets levels beyond the individual, and family, with collaborative multidisciplinary teams that transcend research institutional boundaries and, most importantly, engaging the community as true partners throughout the research process."
