🌳 A good quality Arborist should be able to understand the tree growing below the ground as much as the tree standing above the ground. There are many modern ways in which a tree care professional can visit your Brisbane home and apply the necessary help your trees may need. How Soil Injection Works 💦 The soil injection unit uses a unique design to deliver particular water-soluble elements and chemicals directly to the root system of your plants. This is done under high water pressure and enables the plant’s roots to efficiently take up all the good stuff we are feeding them. When To Use Soil Injection 🪻This system can be used in a construction site in Brisbane to promote plant vigour during times of stress. It can also be applied to help promote health in sick trees in the urban environment. 📈Through accurate assessment we aim to diagnose the issues and remedy them with accurately applied mixtures. Trees that have been recently installed or transplanted can benefit from a soil injection. Transplant stress can be fatal for plants and the onset is usually very fast. A timely applied soil injection can reduce this from happening. 🦟 Pest infestation can also be treated by soil injection. Once we identify the pest we are able to apply the correct chemical to combat the infestation. The soil injection system is non-invasive and is not harmful to surrounding plants or animals and pets. 🏆 This system is a sustainable and proven technique and we have had great success across the field in Brisbane treating plants with a soil injection. Setting Onions Nursery Here are concise to considerations when setting up an onion nursery: Location, Location, Location: Choosing the right location for your onion nursery is crucial for its success. Here are some key factors to consider Security: Ensure the area is secure and well fenced or otherwise protected to deter theft and animal intrusion. Water Accessibility: Easy access to water is essential for keeping your onion seedlings hydrated. Locate the nursery near a reliable water source. Crop Rotation: Avoid planting onions in a bed that recently housed onions or other members of the allium family (garlic, leeks, chives) to prevent the buildup of soilborne diseases. Sunlight Availability: Onions require ample sunlight for optimal growth. Avoid areas shaded by trees or structures. #LetsGrowTogether

How is Developmental Pruning Performed? (3/3) Developmental pruning involves pruning young trees every 2-3 years to develop and maintain good structure. Pruning is performed more frequently in the early life of the tree, but as it matures, the frequency can be reduced. Ideally, developmental pruning should start when the tree is planted and continue until it's about 25 years old. Your arborist will begin by examining your tree for any pre-existing structural problems and determining if corrective cuts need to be made. Next, our expert crews will make targeted pruning cuts according to those specifications. Finally, we'll continue to monitor and prune your tree regularly throughout its life. With a strong foundation established through developmental pruning, your tree will be more resilient against structural stressors like strong winds and storms. #DevelopmentalPruning #TreeCare #PruningTips #TreeStructure #HealthyTrees

And so we opened our Eco-Summer-Club today. Our studies were in three parts. First, what do we mean by "Reading the land"? Second, a brief history of farming, looking at field-shape as an indicator, and then using maps to look at the way different areas of our own BioRegion are divided into fields. Finally, we took a dive into map reading with a Bushcraft expert, and then did some practical work in reading maps, and identifying hills, valleys, ridges, saddles, spurs, draws and cliffs. Part of our learning about farming was about the wildwood that covered Britain after the ice age, and then the development of coppicing during the neolithic. As such, we were looking at the difference between cutting the forest down (land clearing for early agriculture) and coppicing for producing wood suitable to homesteading and as fuel. We then walked onto the land around our Community class and could see the expert coppicing of the wood. Although from "outside" it looks natural, the children quickly realised how "human-made" this wood is. Other indications from reading the land were the presence of Ash trees with some almost horizontal boughs. These clearly developed long before the more recent trees that had been planted in the forest. By looking at the terrain, considering the morphology of specific trees, the presence of coppice, the children could see already some of the human influences on this piece of land. Tomorrow we delve into the ancient history of Britian, 450 million years ago, and then look in depth at three regions – coastal Somerset, Wiltshire clays and the Marlborough Chalk Downs. Three regions, three geologies, all linked within one watershed. If you are local to this area there are still places available, each Tuesday and Wednesday – 30/31st July; and 6/7th, 13/14th, 20/21st July. If you have children between 10 and 14 in the Wiltshire area, this is an amazing opportunity to develop their awareness and learning about their BioRegion. https://lnkd.in/ecYTuqaT #HomeEd #EcoSummerSchool #Lacock #Wiltshire #BioRegions #BristolAvonBioRegion

Important notice to Arborists The City of Nedlands Council recently adopted a tree protection policy covering private property on the 23rd of July 2024. (Local Planning Policy 3.3 – Tree Retention). The policy protects trees on all residential lots zoned with a density code of R20 or lower. A Regulated Tree is defined as being one which has: 1) An average canopy diameter of 6m or greater 2) A height of 8m or greater; or 3) A circumference of a tree with a single trunk of 1.5m or greater, measured 1.4m above the ground; or 4) A circumference of a tree with multiple trunks, a total trunk circumference of 1.5m or greater, with an average trunk circumference of 625 millimetres or greater, measured 1.4m above the ground. Tree damaging activity includes: a) the killing or destruction of a tree. b) the removal of a tree. c) the severing of branches, limbs, stems or trunk of a tree. d) the ringbarking, topping, or lopping of a tree; and/or e) any other substantial damage to a tree This new policy may also impact some developments that had previously been deemed-to-comply under the previous framework, as well as some demolition permits. The policy does exclude trees of a species that is on state or local weed register and palm varieties. We encourage you to read the policy, you can find it on our website, here: https://lnkd.in/gGGV2aFH Please contact the City of Nedlands Planning Department at planning@nedlands.wa.gov.au or 9273 3500 should you have any further queries.

🌿 Over the last five decades, 20-35% of our mangroves have disappeared. In many parts of the world, mangroves have been converted into fishponds and agricultural areas or have been removed to make way for urban sprawl and coastal development. As nations, institutions, and communities start to feel the impact of losing their mangroves, a major desire and opportunity for restoration is emerging. Let's seize this moment for a greener future! #MangroveDay #WetlandsMatter

Growing up in nature and then watching its decimination over the last 30yrs in my working life is heartbreaking. I think we’re suffering as a species quite simply because of our detachment from the natural environment. We know we feel better when we’re in it & when we look after it, yet here we are with 3% left across the board from just 100yrs ago. We’ve been led to eat it, spray it, shoot it, skin it, cull it but not live with it and protect it with our lives. I’m not saying there aren’t incredible people doing extraordinary things to help nature thrive but it’s an effort that needs addressing on a larger scale and it can all start in the garden. I’ve invested 30+yrs in construction with the notion of building homes not houses, I’ve researched how creating the right environment during the building process creates the best place for a family to thrive once the build is completed. Sowing and maintaining Wild flower meadows, hedgerows and planting organic vegetables has proven in our research that everyone benifits, from the nature, the workforce, the quality of the build and family life. At Axford & Heaton we’ve come up with a solution to put back 3% of wildflower meadow land in 3yrs through construction sites….open the link to find out how we can make the United Kingdom and beyond healthy again.
