THE POWER OF GRAZING 🐄 🐏 Many practices characteristic of modern conventional farming have negative impacts for wildlife and biodiversity. The disappearance of mixed agricultural systems, traditional rotations and the separation of arable/pastoral systems has contributed to the loss of plants, birds, mammals and insects from our landscapes. Nature-friendly, pasture-fed methods of farming animals and land management, such as those promoted by the Pasture for Life standards, are based upon the principle of ensuring #wildlife habitats are no longer declining but maintained and #regenerated. Many important and threatened species of native wildlife depend on grasslands as a habitat and food source, meaning their conservation can be supported through appropriate management. Whereas, it can be difficult to reverse biodiversity decline in intensive, high-input systems. If you are looking to move to a more pasture-fed system or learn more about the positive impacts of pastoral systems, find out more here - https://lnkd.in/gjRQ9ak8 📸 PfL certified Hill Top Farm Yorkshire #biodiversity #grazing #animals #nature #pastureforlife #pasture #farming

World Migratory Day 2024 The World Migratory Bird Day campaign in 2024 will stress the need for proactive conservation measures. This includes reducing the use of pesticides and fertilizers, and where possible, switching to organic farming. Other measures include maintaining and connecting areas of natural vegetation which provide food and shelter for birds and other species, in agricultural landscapes. Birds play crucial roles in pollination and pest control, and a lack of insects disrupts these ecosystem functions. Overpopulation of certain insects, without natural predators from birds, can also cause outbreaks that damage plant health and agriculture. #landscape #landscapearchitecture #architecture #environment #migratory #birds #planning #planting #wildlife #landscapeplanning

Beware of the Spongy Moth! 🦋🌿 The Spongy Moth, an invasive pest, poses a serious threat to New Zealand’s forests and native plant life. This moth, known for its voracious appetite, can cause widespread defoliation, stripping trees of their leaves and leaving them vulnerable to disease and death. If the Spongy Moth were to establish itself here, it could have devastating effects on our forestry industry and the health of our natural ecosystems. The caterpillars of the Spongy Moth are particularly destructive, feeding on the foliage of over 500 different plant species, including many of New Zealand’s native trees. This could lead to significant damage to our unique biodiversity, increased costs for pest control, and the potential collapse of affected ecosystems. Protecting New Zealand from such invasive species is vital to preserving our environment and maintaining the integrity of our forests. Stay alert and if you spot one, catch it, snap it, and report it to MPI on 0800 80 99 66! 🚨🌳 #Pest #NewZealand #NativeLife #ProtectNZ #SpongyMoth
