Experienced business continuity and risk management consultant working with you to energise your business resilience
The on call engineer for the UK's Air-Traffic Control was at home on the busiest day of the year... when both the main and back-up computers failed. 300,000 people had their flights cancelled, while a further 400,000 incurred delays. A report has revealed it took 90 minutes for the staff member to reach work and start to fix the failed Nats flight system. "Having exhausted remote intervention options it took 1.5 hours for the individual to arrive on-site in order to perform the necessary full system restart which was not permitted remotely.” A more senior engineer “was unfamiliar with the fault message” recorded in the log, the report says. The company that built the system, Frequentis, was not asked for assistance “for more than four hours after the initial failure despite their having a unique level of knowledge”. This was a plannable risk scenario. It is a great case study in why you do business impact analysis and invest in appropriate resilience, training and procedures. If these issues resonate in your operations you might want to give me a call! https://lnkd.in/eHtmR7Q4 #preparedness #resilience #businessinterruption ##businesscontinuity #riskmanagement

Business Development Manager | Business Transformation Manager | Leadership and Management consultant | Digital Transformation
I've had a fantastic couple days in the Isle of Man supporting Best Energy IoM, and was very well looked after by Steve Pickett. Unfortunately I was a good few days late to enjoy a bit of the TT, and worse still, I made it home to watch England's second half last night! The initial task is to process map the engineers' job process, then utilise #M365 to remove any paperwork, offline document storage, and build a platform to store and monitor all live data. We also set up #Teams and #Shifts to manage and track timelines, with some formal training in the pipeline. I'm really looking forward to see this digital transformation in action.

Bottom line: not worth the risk. Be safe, higher licensed, and get an electrical permit. Remember an unlicensed contractor cannot provide you with an electrical permit therefore, if your electrical contractor is telling you not to get a permit, a question to ask is if they are actually licensed……
In The News: ESA's Emily Larose, VP Regulatory and General Counsel, discusses a high profile recent conviction for unlicensed activity and offers a warning to employers looking to hire out. Bottom line: Not worth the risk. Be safe, hire licensed and get an electrical permit. https://lnkd.in/gUdh4Arr

🛠 Are your technicians getting in each other's way? Have you every had an issue where two of your vans end up in almost exactly the same place on two different jobs? This can be embarrassing in front of your customers, can be frustrating for your engineers and can be a waste of valuable resource such as travel time, fuel & congestion charges. Your second engineer who shows up alongside the first one may have been better used attending a customer in another location, leaving the first engineer to complete both jobs, improving your customer service and efficiency at the same time. However, as your team of operatives grows it can get quite difficult keeping track of where everyone is and it's very easy for this type of situation to occur. We've just added a new visual tool to TeamPoint to help with this and a range of other location based planning issues ... https://lnkd.in/e55cSp25 #fieldmaintenance #fieldservice #FieldServiceManagement #ServiceManagementSoftware #cafm #productivity #workplaceefficiency #FacilitiesManagement #FM #FacilityServices #fieldservicesoftware #FieldServiceManagementSoftware #refrigeration #airconditioning #drainage #nadc #bpca

Back to the Basics - Recently I was working on a retrofit proposal. The circumstances were pretty grim, but I won't bore you with the details. Anyway, I was mired down in the thick of trying to provide a like for like scenario. Puzzled at the complexity and lack of meeting code capability, I spoke with my boss. The key thing here is, don't be afraid or ashamed to bounce brain power with other experienced personnel. No one person has all the answers! During our conversation he made a simple statement. "What if we relocate the air handlers to a vertical position." My initial thought was, that's going to add so much cost to the job. It's not worth my investigation. Yes, I agreed it was the better route, and to be honest, a little frustrated I hadn't thought of it. After investigating both options, the vertical option was, not only the best option, but the least expensive! None of it was cheap, mind you, but I'm constantly trying to provide the best option for the customer. Best options, for me, are based on, serviceability, up front cost, equipment life span, energy conservation, and reduced potential to impact occupants. Sometimes the research requires engineering several variations to derive at a defendable presentation for the option I choose. My boss trusts me with the latitude to make wise decision based on my 35 years experience. In this application, the wise decision was to get his input. I love my job and the people I work with!
