Not too long ago we were up in arms about COVID-19 vaccination safety. And rightfully so. Concerns arose because many thought the studies were insufficient to prove that these vaccines were safe. Yet, this is the harsh reality for many of the prescription medications used in the elderly population. Although older adults are the largest consumers of prescription medications, this vulnerable population is often excluded from premarketing clinical trials. Now, I’m not saying that we should start prepping our grandparents for clinical trials. Nope not me! I love my granny! What I am saying is, we should approach prescription medications in the elderly with similar skepticism as we did with COVID-19 vaccinations. Research the drugs, manufacturers, and formulations, ask difficult questions, and consider our older adults' desires before even starting the drugs. And where possible we should prioritize getting them off medications especially when the studies do not outline the impact on their lives. #geriatrx #deprescribing #agingpopulation #clinicaltrials

◾Anthropologists explain why #trust rather than facts will convince people to take #vaccines. Vaccine “hesitancy” is far more complex than being anti-vax. Understanding the reasons for people’s hesitancy is key. Vaccine hesitancy is a label that is often applied when people don't take a vaccine or refuse it for their children. But this phrasing is laden with assumption, and belies the complexity underlying individuals' decisions. https://lnkd.in/esmSsq-k

Research shows that #immunization rates improve in the U.S. when #pharmacists & pharmacy technicians are authorized to vaccinate adults and children. However, the PREP Act—which has allowed pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to administer recommended vaccines without additional restrictions—will lapse at the end of 2024. That means in many states where this authority has not been made permanent, it will be harder for people to access certain life-saving vaccines. This new report from the Global Healthy Living Foundation and IQVIA Institute for Human Data Science shows why ensuring pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in all 50 states can sustainably administer vaccines improves #VaccineEquity for adults: https://bit.ly/4amvjwv #VaccinesShouldntWait

I am thrilled to share that my research article, "A Prospective Observational Study to Assess the Barriers Against Immunization for Delayed Vaccination and Missed Opportunities," has been published in the *European Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences*! In this study, explored the critical barriers affecting vaccination uptake, highlighting the challenges that lead to missed opportunities for immunization. My findings aim to inform policymakers and healthcare providers about effective strategies to enhance immunization rates and ultimately protect public health. #Immunization #PublicHealth #Vaccination #Research #PharmaceuticalScience #HealthcareInnovation
