ProX Summer intern Mia Myers, recently joined fellow interns Madison Peppers and Bryan Mayer to talk with Steve Kraske live on KCUR 89.3 Up to Date! They discussed gun violence in Kansas City, and how the projects they worked on during their paid ProX summer internships with KC Common Good, Second Chance KC (Kansas City Metropolitan Crime Commission), and the City of Kansas City, Mo., Health Department, addressed the issue. ProX is a regional collaborative that pairs Kansas City students with area businesses for five-week paid summer internships or work projects supervised by a professional mentor. An initiative incubated at the Kauffman Foundation, ProX provides coaching support to every student throughout the application, placement, learning and work experience. “It's a way that you can go into whatever field that you want. There are so many different internships that they had, so you can like do different things that might tailor to your career or just interest you. And another thing is, it was paid. And I think that's a big thing to say because a lot of the kids that are out here, they need money. They need something to be able to support themselves or their families. So, I think that even just being able to get more opportunities like these internships will also just make such a difference,” said Mia Myers who completed a Prox internship with KC Common Good. As I concluded my internship, I found it essential to reflect on my time at CareMetx, LLC. This summer's journey as an Information Security Intern has been a dynamic period of growth and learning. Immersed in real-world applications, I garnered hands-on experience that effectively bridged the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical implementation. From the very start, I was fascinated by the challenges presented. Working closely under the guidance of Bob Davis, I engaged in tasks dealing with vulnerability assessments, developer operations, and developing succinct training modules, which pushed me to dive deeper into complex areas of the field. The sense of achievement from troubleshooting and finding innovative solutions was very rewarding. What truly distinguished this experience were the connections I made this summer. The camaraderie among the HR, internship, and IT teams fostered a collaborative environment that facilitated a free and supportive exchange of knowledge and ideas. Thank you Holly Faries Beth Dresing and everyone involved in this process. I am genuinely appreciative of the opportunities and mentorship provided, leaving this internship with not only heightened technical proficiency but also a renewed passion for the field of information security. As I reorient myself toward my academic pursuits, I carry with me a wealth of experiences that will profoundly influence my approach to education. This internship has undoubtedly solidified my professional goals and highlighted the notion that every obstacle represents a possibility for excellence. I truly cannot wait to see where this experience can take me. Here's to a transformative summer! #InfoSecInternInsights #CareMetxInternship #summerinternship2023 #informationsecurity
