January is Braille literacy month, and we're coming in hot to give you some quick tips to make your office space braille-accessible! 👍 1. Make your flooring tactile - tactile tiles are raised tiles or patterns that provide folks with visual impairments some contrast between main areas. You can build these into the tiles, but there are also metallic and rubber options that stick on easily 2. Invest in braille signage for your elevator, front desk area, and bathrooms - these provide the essential services that folks with visual impairments need to access on a regular basis 3. Make sure to have key documents in braille - Use a company like braille works to translate your key documents into Braille so they are accessible to folks coming in with visual impairments. Privacy between office spaces requires good sound insulation and moderate background noise to mask intruding speech. The minimum level of sound insulation generally required between two offices is in the order of 38 dB. Where privacy is important this rises to around 48 dB, and even then it is likely that although conversation will still be heard it will not usually be understood. BS 8233 gives a rough guide where speech will be audible but not intelligible if Dw+LA>75, where Dw is the weighted level difference between rooms, and LA is the indoor ambient noise level in the room.
