Tomorrow: September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. You can attend Songhees Nation's South Island Powwow on Sept. 30 at Royal Athletic Park to celebrate traditional culture and support artisans. I recently heard this poem and felt compelled to share from - Survivor Café: The Legacy of Trauma and the Labyrinth of Memory (Book by Elizabeth Rosner): I once heard the poet Dorian tell a story about bringing her dear friend and fellow poet Luciel on a drive to admire the redwoods and coastal monterey pines of California: "Aren't they the most gorgeous trees?" Dorian said to Luciel. Who relied: "Well, you know Dorian, black people have a complicated relationship with trees." Trees of witness, collaboration, complicated trees. Accordingly it occurs to me that Jewish people have a complicated relationship with trains, with chimneys and billowing smoke, with showers, with turning on the gas, with boxcars, with the sound of the German language particularly when it's shouted, with a flat hand raised at a certain angle, with german shepherds, with a certain kind of mustache or haircut, with a certain kind of uniform, with playing hide and seek. ~ I imagine establishments such as schools and all square or rectangular buildings of settlers may hold a similarly complicated relationship for First Nations, as would long barrel aka. non-restricted rifles. What else do you imagine would? For more info: https://lnkd.in/gvFPbtHU

What a great article to reflect on St Phillip Neri, and how his life and joy influenced others to follow Christ. St Phillip Neri: Pray for us!
Today is feast day of #StPhilipNeri, so we encourage you to read this article. "The good news for us is that that joyful song of Philip Neri is also ours, through the memory and the communion of the Church, so that even though we do not see him and touch him in just the same way that all the many people of Rome did throughout years he walked their streets, we can still know him and love him and receive the joy that he found through the gift of the Church." https://hubs.la/Q02vJzy20
