𝐓𝐌𝐓 𝐓𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐚 – 𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐮𝐛𝐬𝐞𝐚 𝐒𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐠 Did you know? A work class ROV is usually set up with a high strength arm such as a 5 function Rigmaster or a 7 function Atlas arm on the left and a 7 function Master servo-hydraulic controlled arm such as a Titan 4 or Conan on the right. As the ROV approaches the subsea structure the pilot will look for ROV grab bars, easily identified by their orange colour. The pilot will usually grab these with the left 5 function manipulator which helps to hold the ROV in position while the subsea task is completed. The Pilot or Tooling Technician is now able to concentrate on the subsea task using the Titan 4 master controlled 7 function arm which provides superior control. To assist, the Titan 4 is often fitted with a subsea camera with integral light mounted just above the wrist joint to assist with interfacing subsea tools with infrastructure. This could be inserting a hotstab into a receptacle, or a torque tool into a valve override actuator. Do you go underwater? Some people asked that when I explained about my job during offshore-going days. I didn’t. I stayed onboard vessel. Same like other fellow Subsea Inspection personnel. But diver, ROV or other subsea intervention method did. They are the eyes and hands during subsea IRM projects. Without them, we cannot obtain the data that we need. Together with the rest of the team onboard the vessel we perform the work. Not just the 3.4U inspection personnel but also surveyors, FMD engineers, CP engineers, vessel crew and other specialized personnel. It varies according to the scope of work. Ultimately, it is a teamwork effort. Everyone have their own contribution. 𝐓𝐌𝐓 𝐓𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐚 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 (back by popular demand) - 𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐮𝐛𝐬𝐞𝐚 𝐒𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐠 Did you know? Work Class Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV’s) are essentially a platform for tooling that can carry out subsea work that used to be done by divers, and a whole lot more, at far greater depths. To do that, it needs eyes to see, and hands to work. In the case of an ROV, these equate to cameras and manipulators. With these basics the ROV can “see”, monitor some basics, and hold onto things – which is helpful, but not enough. To derive full value from the ROV, we need to add specific tools to carry out the particular work scopes planned. Each task needs specific intervention tools and TMT has over 700 of them to clean, cut, jack, tighten, loosen, operate, turn, hammer, jet, blast etc. The list goes on! Each week our ROV tooling group typically mobilises and demobilises 20 – 30 ROV intervention tools to & from client-specific projects. Each mobilisations requires specialised technicians to inspect, test and report to make sure that the tools will operate first time every time when out on critical path activities offshore. #ROV #offshore #subsea #ICYMI #oilandgas
