In 2024, Manifesta, the European Nomadic Biennial will be hosted in Barcelona and its larger metropolitan region for its 15th edition. Manifesta, the European Nomadic Biennial, changes location every two years. Founded in the early 1990s, Manifesta rethinks the relation between culture and civic society, investigating and instigating an eco-social transition through contemporary culture in response to, and in close dialogue with, the social sphere of the Host City and its communities. Today, for the #PhDOverview campaign, we have our PhD Candidate Marc-Antoine Pigeon MD, FRCPC, OStJ, studying a more comprehensive and pragmatic definition of Health and Safety planning for Mass Gatherings. “Mass gatherings often regroup thousands of participants and are part of every major city’s social landscape, but they represent major challenges, notably for health and safety of participants. Tools specifically designed to help this planning provide various results and often prove not to be enough. United against #disinformation: our work in numbers 💯 🇪🇺 Reflecting on the collective impact of #EDMOeu and the 14 (multi-)national EDMO Hubs so far, we're once more inspired by what #EU-wide collaboration can achieve. 🛫 When the European Digital Media Observatory was launched in June 2020, its mission was clear: the creation of an interdisciplinary cross-border network that would elevate Europe’s understanding of – and collective efforts against – online #disinformation. 🤝 What followed over the next four years was a remarkable journey, bringing together thousands of relevant actors in a quickly growing environment that has connected and empowered communities from all 27 #EU member states and Norway. 📡 Disinformation works fast and large-scale – but so does our network. Both at central level at #EDMOeu, as well as in the 14 EDMO Hubs, the scope, reach, and adaptability of activities and outputs in the fields of #factchecking, #medialiteracy, #research, and #policyanalysis underline the significant role this community has taken in the larger effort to advance our societies’ responses to disinformation, including in times of unforeseen crises. 📊 The selection of figures below provides an overview of what our network has so far accomplished in its core areas of activity. “Kunstmuseum Basel, Zeitz MOCAA has created a groundbreaking exhibition that demands to be seen. The exhibition’s title is inspired by the 2019 Netflix miniseries When They See Us by African-American director Ava DuVernay, which focuses on how Black youth are seen as potential criminals and thus as a threat. Replacing “they” with “we” in the title indicates the crucial perspectival shift: The works on show bring into focus the artists’ lived realities as subject of their own art. Amounting to over 200 pieces, the artworks are grouped into six distinct thematic categories entitled “The Everyday,” “Joy & Revelry,” ”Repose,” “Sensuality,” “Spirituality,” and “Triumph and Emancipation.” This multifaceted special exhibition at the Kunstmuseum Basel | Gegenwart introduces viewers to figurative painting by Black artists from Africa and the African Diaspora dating from the 1920s through to the present. Sound stations and atmospheric staging provide complementary contextual elements as aids to interpretation.
