ARB’s research into culture and misconduct found that misconduct is felt to be rooted in a chain of structural and cultural factors, including excessive workloads. Architects told us that a culture of unsustainable long hours can be discouraged by managers setting the right example by: - Not working unsustainable long hours - Not incentivising long hours Learn more about the research and how architects think culture can be improved ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eHjyEsKJ

As architects, we often find ourselves navigating the complexities of design, construction, and collaboration. Recently, I had the privilege of leading a particularly challenging project that pushed our team to new heights. What made this project stand out wasn’t just the technical hurdles we overcame, but the strength and resilience of our team. Together, we faced unexpected challenges, adapted to changing conditions, and found innovative solutions that brought our vision to life. 💡 Key Takeaways: Effective Communication: Keeping everyone aligned and informed was crucial. Regular check-ins and open channels allowed us to address issues swiftly and stay on track. Collaborative Problem-Solving: When faced with obstacles, we pooled our collective expertise. This collaborative spirit was the key to finding creative solutions under pressure. Resilience and Flexibility: The project demanded quick pivots and out-of-the-box thinking. Our ability to remain flexible ensured that we could meet deadlines without compromising on quality. This journey has reminded me that the true success of a project lies not just in the final structure, but in the teamwork, dedication, and shared commitment that made it possible. A big thank you to everyone who was part of this adventure—your hard work and passion are what make projects like these so rewarding. #Architecture #TeamWork #Leadership #ProjectManagement #Innovation #Resilience Altamas Ali Mukhtar Ahmed Shaikh Anas Qureshi

In over two decades in the architecture and construction industry, I have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of collaboration. No single discipline can stand alone; the success of any construction project hinges on the seamless integration of efforts from architects, engineers, contractors, and clients. When these diverse stakeholders come together with a shared vision, innovation blossoms, waste diminishes, and trust is established, ultimately driving projects to completion on time and within budget. Yet, we still face significant barriers to collaboration, such as inconsistent communication and unclear project goals. To navigate these challenges, we must embrace technology and transparent communication, creating a culture where each voice is valued. As we move forward in the industry, how do we cultivate environments that not only promote collaboration but also empower every member of the team to contribute their best?

New research by the Architects Registration Board (ARB) and Thinks Insight & Strategy reveals the workplace culture experienced by architects and how this shapes the quality of the work they deliver: ▪️Significant proportions have experienced bullying (41%), discrimination (33%), and sexual misconduct (10%), which is considerably higher than other sectors that publish similar research. ▪️ Only half of professionals agree the working environment is inclusive, and this drops further for underrepresented groups including women, ethnic minorities, and professionals with disabilities. ▪️ Architects are concerned about lower quality of work, ethical behaviour and wellbeing as a result of excessive workloads and hierarchies that sometimes create significant power imbalances. In response to the research findings, ARB will set firmer professional standards for architects through a new Code of Conduct and Practice with supplementary guidance on leadership and inclusion. This also follows concerns professionals raised through ARB’s education survey and wider engagement events about mistreatment and misconduct in the sector. If the architecture profession is seeking to uplift their status. Rather than focussing on a title. There might be better things to try. What if the architectural profession wasn't about individual recognition, but about collective action? They might try building a movement to transform the community. What if instead of demanding influence, architects could become better known as catalysts for public good, environmental sustainability, and social change? Leveraging design skills for more than buildings, and creating impactful transformation. What single cause would you unite architects around to create lasting societal impact? #workshops #coaching #architects #architecture #architecturalpractice #leadership

Architects, how do you increase your productivity? And not only maintain but enhance team wellbeing? I have thoughts: → Give your team more autonomy. → Cut out unnecessary meetings. → Spend more time listening. Do you have others to add? Another way is to level up the human skills and culture of your architectural practice. And I’ve workshops for that.
