I’m sure your peers are impressed with your big concepts and complex language but…. ….is this connecting with your ideal client So many Architects messaging is inward looking and feels impenetrable to people that are not in the industry. We seem to be focussed on holding on to those learnt skills of Architecture School, talking about Architecture to other Architects. A complete mind shift is required in practice, where simplicity, clarity and accessibility are at the forefront. We all know people do not understand what Architects do and the value we can bring…..it won’t be improved if we just stay in our echo chamber. —— ♻️ If you found this helpful, repost it so others can make this positive shift too P.S. What moves have you made in your messaging to communicate your value to your clients ___ For more actionable advice to have a happy, healthy and well-paid career in Architecture sign up to the Architects Instruction Newsletter. #architect #architecture #architecturestudent #architecturestudents #career #coach #mentor

Day 29 of my 2-month streak with Willy Samuel Lessons from My Journey: Reflections on My Architectural Experiences 🏗️ As an architecture student at Bells University of Technology, I've had my fair share of challenges. One particular project that stands out was a turning point in my learning journey. Here are the valuable lessons I learned: Lesson 1: Communication is Key 💬 Effective communication with team members and clients is crucial to avoid misunderstandings and ensure successful project delivery. Lesson 2: Embrace Feedback 📝 Constructive criticism helped me refine my design skills and understand the importance of adaptability. Lesson 3: Perseverance Pays Off 💪 Despite facing setbacks, staying committed to my goals and pushing through difficulties led to immense growth. These lessons have shaped my approach to architecture and beyond. I now prioritize clear communication, actively seek feedback, and maintain a resilient mindset. What lessons have you learned from your experiences? Share your stories and let's grow together! 💬 #LessonsLearned #PersonalGrowth #Architecture #BellsUniversity #StudentLife #ArchitectureStudent #Design #Inspiration #Motivation #GrowthMindset

3 questions that periodically come up for me from people I meet are: • What do you do? (Often followed by…) • Which sort of Architecture do you specialise in? (Or) • Are art and architecture actually related? The answers to these questions have evolved over my career. I now say less and refrain more, not for the desire to be secretive but one’s personal arsenal of responses is sometimes better dealt in moderation or at the right time. I’m glad that Architects are now held responsible by law to continue their own professional development and life long learning. The one thing I would say that ties all my lines of interest together from building to technology to art is a desire for expanding knowledge and somehow trying to apply that in practice in the real world. These can overlap between industries and conversations, networking groups or different friend groups. One study seems to affect another often in abstract ways. From soft skills to hard skills these processes constantly evolve and we are all constantly learning from each other. There is strength in community but there is also responsibility in continued learning and sharing.

Navigating the journey of an architect or architecture student comes with its fair share of challenges. Balancing work, study, and personal life is crucial. Some projects are tough and test your skills, and as beginners, we don’t know everything from the start, which is okay. Keeping clients happy, managing administrative tasks, and finding work as a recent graduate can be daunting. Staying unbiased, learning business skills, and meeting unrealistic deadlines are common struggles. Effective communication is essential because great ideas need to be conveyed clearly. The difference between academic learning and real-world practice is significant. Architecture demands a lot of dedication, and there’s enormous responsibility in every project. And, of course, deadlines never seem to end! Despite these challenges, the journey is incredibly rewarding. Each hurdle is an opportunity to learn and grow. What challenges have you faced, and how did you overcome them?

Watching the final reviews of architecture students recently really got me thinking. The pressure to be perfect is overwhelming and it's taking a toll on their health and creativity. I believe we need to ease up on this perfectionism. If we allow more room for creativity and learning from mistakes, I think we'd see happier, more resilient students. Let's consider a gentler approach that prepares them for the real world in a supportive way. #ArchitectureEducation #StudentWellbeing #CreativeLearning
