🏛️ Today, we honor the anniversary of the Prado Museum, a beacon of Neoclassical architecture and global culture. The British Museum has announced a team led by Studio Weave as the winner of its competition to redesign the north and south entrances of the Museum creating a new visitor welcome pavilion. The project is part of the museum's wider Masterplan and will be delivered by Studio Weave, with Wright & Wright Architects, Webb Yates Engineers, Tom Massey - Landscape & Garden Design and Daisy Froud. Nicholas Cullinan, director of the British Museum, said: “As the most visited building in the UK, and one of the top three most visited museums in the world, first impressions count…We were very impressed by Studio Weave’s initial proposals. They perfectly balance a thoughtful visitor experience while remaining true to the British Museum’s historic building.” This week the museum unveiled an exhibition of models and images submitted by the architects shortlisted to redesign the Western Range of the museum. The exhibition consists of work by 6a architects, David Chipperfield Architects, Eric Parry Architects & Jamie Fobert Architects, Lina Ghotmeh, and OMA. As part of a design exercise, each practice was tasked with providing visionary approaches for the project, alongside the outline design of a limited selection of museum displays. While they are not final designs, visitors to the exhibit are being asked to submit feedback on the approaches, which will be passed to the Jury Panel as part of their consideration process. The Jury panel will announce the competition winner in Spring 2025. The model exhibition display is open from now until 2 March 2025. #britishmuseum #architecturecompetition #museums #exhibition

New Thorold Museum and Cultural Centre Revealed to Council The design for the new Thorold Museum and Cultural Centre was revealed by Raimondo + Associates Architects Inc. and Reich and Petch to the City of Thorold Council this week. The project aims to transform the old fire station on Towpath Street into a museum and cultural hub. Proposed renovations include adding an addition as well as a courtyard that features exposing remnants of the old Welland Canal.
