How Do You Solicit Ideas for Innovation? From Janitor to EVP. A janitor named Richard Montañez invented Flamin' Hot Cheetos and eventually assumed the role of Vice President of Multicultural Marketing & Sales (retired in 2020) Richard came from humble beginnings and had modest ambitions but that all changed when someone told him he could have bigger dreams. The president of the company sent a video message to his employees and "He told us to act like an owner," says Richard. One day, a machine broke in the assembly line, causing some Cheetos to not get dusted with the bright orange cheese powder, so Richard took some home and put chili powder on them. Richard called the president and talked the secretary into putting his call through. Richard told him that he had an idea for a new product and he got a chance to give a demonstration. The company executives loved his idea, and the Flamin' hot line of products was born, including Flamin' Hot Cheetos, which is Frito-Lay's top-selling snack. Eventually, Richard assumed the role of executive vice president of multicultural sales and community activation for PepsiCo's North American divisions. In the face of unprecedented challenges throughout 2023, our team at Anheuser-Busch showcased extraordinary resilience, unwavering determination, and a strong collaborative spirit, propelling us to achieve remarkable milestones. The Inbound Raw Materials team, in particular, excelled in implementing pivotal processes, resulting in significant accomplishments. We successfully reduced demurrage and out-of-pattern truck spend year-over-year, while simultaneously optimizing our logistics footprint for substantial savings. We also enhanced visibility and controls on rail services, optimized inventory policies, and strategically managed core working capital. Our proactive initiatives extended to streamlining hops exports, and introducing automation to specific reports. These strategic advancements were driven by a singular goal: to enhance our ability to serve our breweries by ensuring a seamless supply of key ingredients for crafting exceptional beer. The realization of these achievements owes everything to the dedication and collaborative efforts of our exceptional team.
