Good piece on challenges of electrification of heavy duty trucks. The transition to zero and near zero emission trucks is one that will occur but will take longer. Issues such as weight, range, charging infrastructure and time to charge truck tractors, as well as the costs of these vehicles are all items that must improve to make them more viable to a wider base of users. Other clean energy strategies such as renewable natural gas and renewable diesel, that are available now, offer great potential to reduce emissions and GHG in a shorter timeframe with less cost and problems.
🚛⚡🚚 Truck fleet electrification is presently far too expensive for the benefits it produces, says J.B. Hunt's Shelley Simpson. And there are better ways. #GHGemissions #climatechange https://loom.ly/ka1ON_w

"Fleets are often able to procure zero-emissions vehicles and chargers in less than a year. Grid upgrades can take upwards of five or more years." It's 2024. How are fleets going to hit 2030 sustainability goals with multi-year delays for grid upgrades to power EV charging infrastructure? Short answer: they won't. At least not with conventional solutions. Fleets that want to meet their sustainability goals and to accelerate their path to electrification need to adopt innovative solutions to solve the power problem. Those who do will be rewarded with superior financial and sustainability performance while showcasing their innovation to the world.
