We prepare recruits for the military, but how do we prepare veterans for civilian life/ the workplace? Veterans have a lot of skills and experience that can be valuable in the workplace, but it’s not always easy for them to make the transition. It has to start with businesses stepping up to create opportunities and showing genuine gratitude for people in the military.

This Veterans Day, we reflect on the significance of saying, "Thank you for your service," a phrase that has become a symbol of gratitude towards our armed forces since the late 1990s. While its origins remain somewhat unclear, it stands as a collective acknowledgment of the sacrifices made by military personnel. The impact of this expression varies among veterans, with some finding it meaningful while others believe it falls short of capturing the full extent of their experiences. Recognizing the complexity of gratitude is crucial, as it can resonate differently with each individual. To truly honor our veterans, we should seek more personalized ways to show appreciation. Engaging in heartfelt conversations, actively listening to their stories, and supporting veteran initiatives create deeper connections and understanding. These actions go beyond mere words, offering genuine recognition of their service and sacrifices. This Veterans Day, let's go beyond the conventional and strive to honor our veterans in ways that deeply resonate with them. Today is Veterans Day—a time to honor those who have served, sacrificed, and dedicated their lives for our country and our freedom. It is disheartening, however, that many companies don’t formally recognize or celebrate this day. Given that U.S. organizations (and beyond) benefit from the security and liberties protected by our veterans, acknowledging this day isn’t just symbolic; it’s a demonstration of respect, gratitude, and unity. One day… That’s all we ask to recognize the courage, sacrifice, and service of our military veterans. For many organizations, observing Veterans Day as a day off isn’t standard practice, but it should be. This isn’t about shutting down operations for the sake of it—it’s about recognizing the contributions of those who served, giving employees time to reflect, and demonstrating real gratitude as a community. To those companies that take the day to honor our veterans, thank you. For those who don’t, let’s remember: it’s not just a holiday; it’s a chance to show respect to the men and women who’ve given so much to protect our way of life.
