https://lnkd.in/gKEsneh5 I support taxing the tourists or charging the tourists to get income in our state budget. Florida has a state population of over 21 million. Florida recently received 33 million tourists in one year. Hawaii has about 1.4 million residents and receives over 9 million tourists a year. Florida has no state income tax but gets their state budget revenue from sales tax funded mostly by the tourists. Hawaii has a state income tax and gets its state budget mainly from its residents. I like the Florida model of letting the tourists pay for the state budget. #climatechange #fire #taxes #tourists #Hawaii

Great news for campsite and glamping operators! 🏕️ A recent Tribunal case has opened the door for camping pods to qualify as plant and machinery for capital allowances. This could mean significant tax savings for businesses investing in new pods. Whether you're a limited company or an unincorporated business, you might be eligible for 100% AIA or "full expensing" relief. 🌿 While HMRC may appeal, it's worth exploring your options now. Contact us at Viewpoint Accountants to see how this could apply to you. 📞 #CampingPods #CapitalAllowances #TaxSavings #GlampingBusiness #ViewpointAccountants

Second homes for sale treble in Wales seaside town, why? In what can only be described as Nationalistic Policies v Economic Viability, is this simply another political dilemma being addressed? Or does the decision making in this instance reveal a complete lack of common sense in understanding the delicate balance between cultural identity and ultimate consequences of ill-thought-out actions? The short-sightedness of hiking council tax in Pembrokeshire reveals the harsh reality that speaking Welsh or adhering to local customs alone cannot sustain employment opportunities, living wages, and economic growth. Other Welsh councils to similarly charge a 100%+ premium include Anglesey and Conwy. Wales is not alone dealing with these issues. There have also been many similar reports from other parts of the UK. Indeed, in Cornwall, there has been growing negative sentiment among locals in various locations that tourism is leading to rising property prices and a decline in affordable housing. This has also resulted in efforts to limit second-home ownership and vacation rentals, aimed at protecting local communities. But again, I am confident these actions can also deter investment in the area and reduce the overall economic contribution of tourism. Coming back to Wales, to avoid the pitfalls of foolhardy policies, surely it was crucial for the Pembrokeshire council and community leaders to engage in more thoughtful, inclusive discussions? Quite frankly, I see little evidence of that, in which case I would caution the advocates of these approaches be very careful what they wish for. The community's attempts to uphold misguided cultural pride easily leads to unintended consequences that can devastate local economies, time will tell. #council #economy #culture #housing #politics #wages #growth #government #tourism #leisure https://lnkd.in/eAguJXte

🏡 A Win for Holiday Let Owners: Council Cuts Tax Premium! 🏖️ In a bold move, Councillors in Pembrokeshire, Wales have cut council tax premium on second homes from 200% to 150%, bucking the nationwide trend of increasing taxes on holiday lets. This decision, sparked by local concerns about a dip in tourism and property sales, is a game-changer for holiday homeowners and businesses. Could this inspire other regions to follow suit? 🌟 Tax relief for tourism, growth for local business! #HolidayLets #PropertyTax #TourismBoost #PropertyInvestment

For the last five years, Johnson Winter Slattery has represented Godolphin Australia Pty Ltd (Godolphin) in a land tax dispute with the NSW Chief Commissioner of State Revenue. Most recently, this matter was heard by the High Court of Australia, where Godolphin appealed a decision of the Court of Appeal denying the primary production exemption from land tax. The matter concerns the interpretation of “… land the dominant use of which is for the maintenance of animals… for the purpose of selling them or their natural increase or bodily produce.” The main issue in dispute was whether the Court of Appeal erred in concluding that the requirement of dominance applies to both “use” and “purpose”. The 2024 Union of BC Municipalities Convention runs next week from September 16-20. The City is putting forward three resolutions calling on the Government of British Columbia to reform the farm property tax system to better support agriculture viability. This work is just one way that the City is already taking action on climate change. Our award-winning Agricultural Viability Strategy identifies farm property tax reform—including updates to income thresholds, changes to the school tax exemption, and targeted land tax on unfarmed land—as a key action for stimulating a productive agricultural land base. City Council is attending the UBCM Convention to meet with various ministries and advocate for the needs of Pitt Meadows. We have a number of parties that have already endorsed our resolutions, including the Lower Mainland Local Government Association. With support from the Holiday Cottage Handbook community, I have created a petition urging the government to reverse plans to abolish the furnished holiday lettings (FHL) tax regime. It is our belief that furnished holiday lets contribute a huge amount to local economies. They support jobs and provide thousands of customers to local shops, restaurants, and tourist attractions. We believe that abolishing the FHL tax regime will hurt local economies and cost jobs in various sectors, and do little to solve the housing crisis in the UK. For the sake of tourism across the UK and businesses which rely on tourism, we urge the government to reconsider this approach. If we reach 10,000 signatures, the government will respond, and if we reach 100,000, the petition will be considered for debate in parliament. Please sign and share far and wide!
