𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐭 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐔𝐩 𝐭𝐨 𝟓𝟓% 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐃𝐮𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐧 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐬 The Finance Bill 2024 has imposed increased regulatory duties on a wide range of imported goods, with rates varying from 5 percent to 55 percent. >10 percent regulatory duty has been imposed on the import of live fish > 35 percent on frozen fish > Imported milk and cream will face a 25 percent regulatory duty > Curd, butter, and nuts will be subjected to a 20 percent duty > Natural honey imports will now include a 30 percent regulatory duty. > 25 percent duty on imported dates, figs, pineapples, guavas and mangoes > 35 percent duty on cherries > 45 percent on apples and lychees > 30 percent on imported maize > Luxury items such as imported perfumes, makeup items, skincare products, and various hair products will be taxed at the highest rate of 55 percent > Shaving creams and various soaps will be charged a 50 percent duty as well. > 10 percent regulatory duty on clothing and accessories > The regulatory duty has also been increased on imported waterproof shoes and leather shoes to 20 percent > 30 percent on wash basins > 20 percent on bathtub/toilet ceramics. > The rate of regulatory duty on imitation jewellery has been raised to 45 percent.

The Pakistani government has introduced new import duties on luxury goods, effective July 1, 2024. The duties will range from 5% to 55% on items such as cars, watches, and cosmetics. Perfumes will be taxed at 20%, watches and sunglasses at 30%, and cosmetics at 55%. #olfactiveinsight There is a big dilemma of perfume buyers in hot countries: 1. Perfumes have a temperature which you can feel. for e.g fresh citrus perfumes have cooling effect. Woody oriental perfumes have a warming effect. 2. Cool perfumes DNAs have a higher diffusion rate, which means lesser longevity. Warm perfumes DNAs have a lower diffusion rate, thus higher longevity for e.g A good fresh perfume would last 3-4 hrs at best. Whereas a good warm fragrance can last even for 24 hours. 3. People who live in cool environments, like KPK-GB, like warm fragrances. Whereas people living in warm environments like Karachi, prefer cool fragrances. 4. Longevity of perfumes is a major criteria for judgement of quality in Pakistan since people are more value conscious then quality conscious. Dilemma: Should people compromise their likeness for longevity? Should they wear fragrances, which they don't like much, only because they last long? Ofcourse there is no right or wrong answer. But my best recommendation is: 1. Understand the tradeoffs. 2. Wear what you like. 3. Keep the perfume with you at all times to re-spritiz. 4. Choose high concentration perfumes from Scents N Stories and read the complete product descriptions including the performance tab. That would help match the expectations better.
