I'm not at all surprised. Seattle has been crowned the smartest city in the U.S... So when I got married in 1990 and moved to Seattle (from Abu Dhabi), I worked for some time with a research company that gathered data for state and city governmental entities on sustainability and smart solutions. We offered intelligence on adoption of recycling, on green energy solutions, and ran focus groups to assess attitudes to help mobilize action. This new announcement that puts Seattle first is based on an assessment of 16 key indicators across three main categories: connectivity and infrastructure, sustainability, and the tech job market. These metrics are used to determine the overall scores for each city. Seattle edged out last year's top city, Austin, to claim the title of the smartest city in the U.S., with an overall score of 75.7 out of 100. Miami wasn't far behind, achieving a score of 75.4. As you know Seattle is home to tech giants such as Amazon and Microsoft, excelled in tech infrastructure, with 34 artificial intelligence companies and 13 Internet of Things companies per 100,000 residents. What you may not know is that Seattle (and the PNW) is lush green with the most breathtaking natural environment you can imagine. In terms of sustainability, Seattle has enhanced its tree coverage by 13,700 hectares from 2010 to 2020 and has established the equivalent of 10 electric vehicle charging points per 100,000 residents. Now half the year we organize corporate retreats where we showcase sustainability solutions in Seattle and PNW, and nothing delivers impact quite like a visit to the mountains and islands. #sustainability #smartcities #innovation #seattle #world4good #tamakkan

The World Smart Cities Outlook 2024 reflects the urgent action needed to leverage technology for inclusive urban development. International guidelines on people-centred smart cities are being developed. These guidelines, informed by the World Smart City Outlook's global smart city development analysis, will ensure cities prioritise inclusivity, sustainability, and responsible technology use, leveraging real-world evidence to address successes and challenges in navigating digitalisation and urbanisation. I enjoyed participating in the first draft task force for the Smart Cities Flagship Programme, titled “Frontier Technologies and Urban Innovation for Inclusive, Sustainable, and Resilient Smart Cities.” This was part of my role as a Change Agent in designing the Organization's Strategic Plan for 2020-2025. #smartcities #urbainnovation #sustainablecities #digitaltransformation #futureofcities #changemanagement #strategicplanning #worldsmartcitiesoutlook #inclusivesmartcities #resilientcities
