This is absolutely noteworthy and an urgent must-read. Amidst the urgency of the call, what encourages me is the ending: „Given the pace and scale of change required, the only way of succeeding is to ensure that the sustainable "offer" is more attractive in terms of prosperity and equity. Interestingly, data shows that this is possible. "Green" solutions are not only good for the planet, they are increasingly competitive (without subsidies), more technologically advanced and thus "modern" and attractive, and have well established benefits for health, security, and social stability. Making the path to a safe landing within Planetary Boundaries, I believe to be the most important narrative required to unleash the innovations, leadership and civil engagement required to tip the scales towards global sustainability.“ 🖖 We need a 1.5°C economy. It‘s possible. Trailblazers & future shapers, let’s pave the way! Give me a call if you want to turn the key with coool communications!

Why is space increasingly important for Sweden and the rest of the world? That is the question that will be answered as part of the Aerospace Almedalen event during Almedalsveckan on 26 June in Visby, Sweden. Aerospace Almedalen is the arena for aviation and space during the Almedalen week, the most important political forum in Swedish politics. Space is increasingly used as an integral part of our Swedish society. You use space systems all the time, consciously or unconsciously. In order to interpret the outside world, deal with climate problems and increase Sweden's resilience, space systems are needed. How do we ensure that Sweden has the required capacity? Frontgrade Gaisler will be represented at the event through the Swedish Aerospace Industries. #almedalsveckan #almedalen2024 Picture: Lars Ling under CC BY-SA 2.0 license (picture modified) https://lnkd.in/eatHBbJ8 https://lnkd.in/d_KVSXBb https://lnkd.in/edK_kMC

The future of a digital ocean is here! Ait is evolving fast with many exciting developments aimed at engaging citizens and using ocean, coastal, socio-economic and wider data in state-of-the-art decision making tools for society, to empower us all for more resilient coasts, nature-based solutions and nature restoration, and more. It was an honour to represent #EMODnet at the Digital Ocean Forum 2024. A great showcase of what EU marine data service assets Copernicus Marine Service and EMODnet have collectively delivered for the European Digital Twin Ocean so far, and of what’s to come. Congratulations to the Seascape Belgium, VLIZ, MOi and wider teams who made both the EDITO pilot project and DOF 2024 such a success! I left DOF 2024 feeling very motivated for what we can achieve when we work together. In my intervention at DOF 2024 I emphasised why the delivery of a common data lake is such a game-changer for the EU Digital Twin Ocean (DTO) “.. We already have a lot of great technology to deliver the EU DTO. But it will only reach its full potential if the computer models and tools have the right fuel: the marine data and ocean observations….Ocean observations and marine data are the truth and the baseline for the EU DTO. EMODnet and Copernicus Marine Service have achieved a lot to democratise marine data for all. And the cooperation for EU DTO is a powerful partnership as it has delivered for the first time a common data lake combining the offers of both EU marine data services…..we need this to continue and to scale up and expand… The better the data, the better the input to the models, and the more realistic and accurate the outputs will be to support EU Policy, the Blue Economy and wider decision-making…High resolution (more data in space and time) is key. And diverse data (across all elements of the marine environment plus human activities at sea plus socio-economic data) are essential for the EU DTO to have holistic data and information to support complex models and decision-making tools, from climate-smart Marine Spatial Planning to adaptive Marine Protected Area management, and from local aquaculture farm operations to regional sea-basin scale sea level rise simulations and predictions.” Another key point where EC marine data services are working on is optimising data not only for cloud computing but also for Machine Learning and other Artificial Intelligence applications. This is already in the planning and will also need input from users: from the modelling community and citizens themselves. Perhaps a topic for DOF 2025?! The DOF 2024 brought together > 60 European projects already connecting with the EU DTO. And this engagement will continue to expand, including the roll out of stakeholder beta testing of the EDITO DTO platform and with co-design with diverse stakeholders -including citizens - to produce a Digital Ocean ecosystem for Europe that is fit for use by all via decision-making tools and scenario building.
🌟The #DOF2024 concludes with inspiring talks and panels, including with our own Kate Larkin, Head of EMODnet Secretariat. Stay tuned for more news on the #EUDTO and key outcomes coming soon! 👉https://lnkd.in/dHw2PeTF EDITO - European Digital Twin Ocean Copernicus Marine Service VLIZ - Flanders Marine Institute Mercator Ocean International Mission Ocean Seascape Belgium

✈️ Congratulations to MARS! The DAFNI programme is pleased to announce that our expert external panel has awarded funding to three amazing projects under the theme of Transport: ‘ClimaTracks’, ‘IMPACT’ and ‘MARS’. ✈️ MARS (Modelling Aviation Resilience Scenarios) is a project led by Dr. Fabian Steinmann from Cranfield University along with Dr Irene Moulitsas and Dr Desmond Bala Bisandu from Cranfield University. 🛬 🛫 The project seeks to explore the resilience of the UK aviation system during mass diversion events. The Cranfield team will develop a computational model of the UK airport network and conduct simulations involving airport closures that result in mass diversions. The project involves data collection and data pre-processing before a computational model of the UK airport network can be built. This model enables the research team to simulate airport closures and investigate the subsequent diversion of aircraft to alternate airports. The work of the Cranfield team will help identify potential bottlenecks during mass diversion events and build a foundation for evaluating the resilience of the UK aviation system. 🛩️ Read the full announcement at: 🌐https://lnkd.in/e5fUVK8J Book onto the 22nd May webinar to find out more: 🌐https://lnkd.in/eQYm3xPV DAFNI: Data & Analytics Facility for National Infrastructure #infrastructure #transport #digitaltwins #DAFNI #aviation #research #energy #rail #resilience #flooding #infrastructureresearch
