Timeline of some exciting Intel CPUs • 1991: Intel 486DX2-66 • 1993: Intel Pentium 60 & 66 MHz • 1994: Intel Pentium 75-200 MHz • 1995: Intel Pentium Pro • 1997: Intel Pentium II • 1998: Intel Celeron • 1999: Intel Pentium III • 2000: Intel Pentium 4 I still remember the excitement of each new CPU release. After the Pentium 4, that just didn’t feel the same.🥸

Innovation leads to profitable growth
On the back of rising Epyc sales and a strengthening MI300 outlook, AMD is gaining data-center share on Intel. The PC-market recovery continues, while the embedded-market recovery should be underway in Q3. Read more at: https://lnkd.in/gfDsehb2

This isn't too surprising. Spending time in the vicinity of corporate development at a big chip company, I came to the realization that every part of every company is always for sale. That's not to say there's bid/offer activity but instead to say that nothing is off the table and deals like QCOM-CCG come up for consideration more often than you would think. I don't see this going anywhere. Stranger things have happened, but I can't think of any offhand. As an aside, you can ignore the official "nothing to see here" statement. PR isn't dissembling; at this trial-balloon stage of the game, they're not looped in. Edit: If this moves forward, the sequence of articles will be (company names changed to be generic): * A repeat of this story. * A story saying Company X is exploring strategic options for Business. * A story saying Companies A and B are also looking at Business. * "Sources close to the matter say Company C is offering $100xxx for Business." * If The Street balks, a repeat of the above story but the value changed to $80xxx. * If The Street then says that's crazy low, we'll get an official press release saying Company C and Company X have agreed to a deal for Business, valuing it at $90xxx. I can't say I *know* this, but I've deduced how the lucky reporter gets sensitive info like the tentative valuations: the companies call him up and tell him.
Qualcomm Explores Acquiring Pieces of Intel Chip-Design Business. Qualcomm has reportedly explored the possibility of acquiring portions of Intel's design business. Intel’s client PC design business is of interest to Qualcomm, but they are looking at all of Intel's design units. Qualcomm has not approached Intel about a potential acquisition, an Intel spokesperson said. Qualcomm has been working on plans to buy pieces of Intel for months. #Qualcomm #Intel #Fab #Foundry #IntelBreakup #Semiconductor #Chips #Chiplets

Excerpts: “… In other words, Qualcomm wouldn't be able to produce Intel-designed x86-64 chips unless AMD gave the green light. It's also likely one of the reasons why no one bought AMD when it was dire straits; whoever took over it would have to deal with Intel…”

In some surprising tech M&A news, Qualcomm has approached Intel Corporation regarding a possible takeover (https://lnkd.in/d2-2Vc6N). I don't see this ever being approved by anti-trust regulators, however it paints a clear picture that Intel has been struggling a lot lately. The x86 chips have been loosing a lot of ground against ARM chips in all sorts of key features. I don't see x86 going away any time soon, but I also don't see them being the leaders in this space in the near future. #hardware #chips #arm #x86

Here is another update from Intel, which is not having great times lately. Qualcomm’s is planning acquisition of Intel, which could transform the chip industry by merging ARM and x86 architectures under one company. This move echoes other big deals, like AMD’s $35 billion acquisition of Xilinx, which expanded AMD's portfolio into high-performance computing, and Nvidia’s attempted $40 billion purchase of ARM, which was blocked due to antitrust concerns. If Qualcomm succeeds, it could gain a leading role in both ARM-based mobile chips and x86 processors for PCs, but it will likely face similar regulatory hurdles. https://lnkd.in/dUW33JmE #Intel #Qualcomm #ARM #Acquisition
