In multiple discussions in the community I often hear questions about what we can use to produce biofuels. My favorite reference is Back To The Future with Doc and Marty McFly to fuel their time traveling, flying car. Learn more from Shell SVP of Low Carbon Fuels on where biofuels come from and how they are produced. #poweringprogress #energy
Where do biofuels and e-fuels come from, and how are they produced? With the biofuel landscape expanding and globally diversifying, the list of feedstocks and production pathways is continuously evolving to meet the growing requirements for biofuels in transportation and industry. The infographic below showcases a selection of categorised feedstocks and production technologies for the creation of biofuels and e-fuels. Ensuring these fuels are produced sustainably and deliver significant carbon emissions reduction is essential if they are to play a key role in reaching society’s net-zero ambitions. However, the sustainability of a feedstock depends on many factors – for example, the same feedstocks can be sourced and used sustainably in one part of the world, but not another. That’s why Shell has strict internal sustainability policies when it comes to purchasing biofuel feedstocks, and it’s why we continue to develop more advanced technologies to process a wider range of feedstocks. #biofuels #EnergyTransition #sustainability
