I don't agree with Suze Orman often. But she is 110% correct on this one! If you want to set your kids up for success -- here is one way to do just that! The formula is pretty simple -- save $200 per month in an investment vehicle, hopefully gaining 7% per year, and by 50 years old they are millionaires. I had some fun with this and ran a few examples: Scenario 1 -- $200 invested per month for 30 years, returning 7% each year -- nets you $252,000. Scenario 2 -- exact same amount invested for an additional 20 years, for a total of 50 years -- $1,077,000! Scenario 3 -- $500 invested per month for 30 years, returning 5% each year - nets you $515,000. Scenario 4 -- same $500, invested for an additional 20 years (total of 50) -- $1,610,000. Scenario 5 -- same $500 invested for 50 years and taking additional return risk of 7% -- $3,196,000. Orman is spot on with this one. But the key idea to understand for all of us is that we are in control of three key portions of our investment holdings -- 1. Time 2. Risk 3. Money When you begin to understand your control and how to use it wisely, you find out investing is more about defined objectives and less about risk behavior. #familybusiness #generationalwealth
