“One of the things I enjoy about mentoring others is listening—understanding where they’re at and the questions they’re confronting.” — Paul Kearns, Argonne Lab Director At Argonne, mentoring is more than a program; it’s a way to connect, grow, and support one another. Mentors provide guidance, share experiences, and help others reach their goals, all while building a stronger and more inclusive community. This #NationalMentoringMonth, Paul Kearns reflects on the power of listening as a mentor and how it can drive both personal and professional growth. #WeAreArgonne

Mentoring can help people: • Develop their full potential • Help them to confidently pursue their goals • Positively influence the lives of others I've had amazing mentors throughout my journey. 🙌 Are you in a position to mentor a colleague, a student, a friend, a new community member, family? #NationalMentoringMonth

In my experience, successful mentorship thrives when the focus is on the mentee's growth and aspirations. While mentors have plenty to offer, our willingness to learn from those we guide makes these relationships rewarding. The two-way exchange of ideas and insights transforms mentoring into a dynamic partnership where both sides can grow. In my own journey, the desire to make a broader impact and contribute to shaping the future of education and research drove my excitement about mentoring. I agree that it's key when helping others succeed is most rewarding—more than any personal growth or success. #WeAreGSBS
#ESCCongress was reenergizing last week in London. A highlight for me was sharing the floor with fellow panelists, Sonya, Kirsten, and Cecilia, about mentorship that Roxana organized. We discussed how two-way learning is the hallmark of a productive mentoring relationship in a rigorous discussion moderated by Barbara. Mentors clearly benefit from the relationship because we can always learn from each other. But the distinguishing characteristic of a successful mentorship is when the mentor cares more about the mentee’s path than their own. What’s your success factor for mentoring?

I am doing a lot of thinking about my career and also what I can bring to others. Part of that is learning about being a good mentor and mentee as I work with some new mentees I am in contact with and have a few mentors of my own. I just finished the course “Being a Good Mentee” by Ellen Ensher! Up next is a course about being a mentor. Check out the mentee course: https://lnkd.in/e8uFVjHn #workplacerelationships #careermanagement.

Had a wonderful time talking to Andy Lopata and Dr. Ruth Gotian, Ed.D., M.S. during the Chronus webinar today -- Hidden Gaps: Where Mentoring Programs Fail. It was good to dig into how organizations can optimize their mentoring promotion, enrollment and engagement. With January being National Mentoring Month, it's a great time to review how we can make mentoring relationships productive and effective for both individuals and organizations. #MentoringMonth #MentoringMatters
