One more day until my Lyft internship is complete! So, I want to share a few reflections. Being the first in my family to achieve several post-secondary educational milestones has often felt like a choose-your-own-adventure storybook. And, the majority of times, I have had no idea what I was doing. However, I’ve always been driven by my personal mission and values to do good. Two years ago, I began asking myself what I wanted to do after my PhD and stumbled upon UX research. With my 10+ years of research experience, I grew curious as to how I could transfer my skills into user experience and tech products. As a medical/sociocultural anthropologist, it is undeniable how tech is part of our culture and touches every part of our lives in every single way. Like the researcher that I am, I learned more about UXR and grew my UXR network (s/o to the many people that shared 30 mins of their time with me!) Fast forward to today and I can honestly say that these past twelve weeks as the only UXR Lyft intern have been transformative for my UX research experience. What once was theory, became practice. I was able to: -conduct end-to-end research -host research read-outs with stakeholders -practice multiple research methods And so much more! I complete my Lyft internship with gratitude to have collaborated with so many wonderful people doing incredible work. Many many many thanks to Sabrina Papazian, PhD, Meghan Wenzel, Anne Cormia, Rafae Aziz, Artin Yip, and so many others who have shaped my Lyftern experience. I hope my feature is helpful to other grad students in the social sciences interested in industry careers. Now to focus on finishing this dissertation! #Lyft #UXR #intern #UXRinternship #PhD
