TAMY - Taller de Arquitectura Moderna de Yucatán I had the honor of co-coordinating, alongside Architect Henry Ponce, an academic project with architecture and design students focused on Colonia México, one of Mérida, Yucatán's most iconic neighborhoods, which holds valuable examples of modern architecture. Through critical analysis and innovative proposals, we explored how to rethink respectful and creative interventions in an area rich in history and cultural significance. The main goal was to revalue modern architectural heritage, integrating it into the current urban dynamics while highlighting its cultural identity. From interpreting the historical and aesthetic values of these spaces to conceptualizing contemporary design strategies, the students displayed remarkable commitment and sensitivity to the context. This experience highlights the importance of connecting academia and heritage preservation, fostering an ongoing dialogue between the past and the future. 🌿 💡 How can we continue creating meaningful impact in valuing our cities and their architectural memory? I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences! #ModernArchitecture #CulturalHeritage #UrbanDesign #InnovationAndContext #AcademicCollaboration

Reviving Art in Architecture: A Look at France's '1% for Art' Policy This Policy is intended to bring new life into architecture by integrating art seamlessly into public spaces. This innovative approach not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of buildings but also fosters cultural growth and appreciation. By allocating this small percentage of construction budgets to art installations, France has set a precedent for other countries to prioritize art in urban development. This strategy promotes creativity, stimulates local economies, and enriches the daily lives of residents and visitors alike. Of course... some applications are better than others. #artintegration #culturaldevelopment #art #architecture #investing #lifestyle #220dots

Ecoterrazas San Cristobal: A Catalyst for Sustainable Urban Living for Bogotá’s San Cristóbal | Architecture Thesis ‘Ecoterrazas San Cristobal’ is an architecture thesis by Andrés Felipe Gómez Loaiza from the ‘Facultad de Arquitectura y Diseño - Universidad de los Andes’ that explores sustainable urban living in Bogotá, with the goal of integrating urban and environmental elements with architectural experimentation. Emphasizing sustainability, it uses core design principles like voids, irregular forms, and variable massing to balance functionality with ecological responsibility. Exploring the relationship between humans and their environments through architectural lenses : Architectural design serves both the natural man (Biophilic man) and the cultural man (Topophilic man). The natural man connects deeply with the physical world, embracing organic, raw elements that reflect our innate relationship with nature. In contrast, the cultural man thrives in environments shaped by human history, social interactions, and collective memory. Designing spaces that balance these two human aspects allows us to create environments that are both intuitively comforting and rich with cultural meaning. #Architecture #DesignThinking #NatureAndCulture #BiophilicDesign #Topophilia #Architecture #SustainableDesign

“Designing interpretive centers is no copy-paste exercise; each is purposefully conceived for the story it was made to tell, and pays heed to environmental and landscape conditions.” The Architect's Newspaper's Kristine Klein spoke with Alan Reed, FAIA, LEED AP to explore how the firm created a niche designing interpretive centers across the United States from the Florida Everglades to Niagara Falls. “You can never extract the story from the building, from the design. If buildings connect to stories, they become timeless.” Read more: https://shorturl.at/6ls1C #architecture #design #creativity #museum #visitorcenter #visitorexperience 📷: Thomas Holdsworth
