We've completed our first FiberLine Intervention (FLI) project in #PapuaNewGuinea, as demand for our technology in the Asia Pacific region continues to grow. In this project FLI was used to quickly identify the location of active tubing leaks in an onshore gas well. The FLI probe was gravity deployed to its target depth in just 13 minutes, laying bare distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) and distributed temperature sensing (DTS) fibre across the zone of interest. Annular pressure was manipulated while the dynamic acoustic and temperature signature throughout the wellbore was continuously measured. Multiple tubing leaks were successfully identified by FLI and their locations were precisely pinpointed. Each was monitored, measured and ranked in order of magnitude to inform a suitable remediation plan for the operator where tubing straddles would be set and #wellintegrity restored. FLI’s small wellsite footprint and high-quality data is ideally suited to remote operations such as these, with all the equipment mobilised by air, sea or land at short notice and transported to the wellsite by a field engineer in a light vehicle. In collaboration with the Dragon Oil team, we laid groundwork for future installations of corrosion monitoring fittings. Faced with upper completion delivery delays, the operator of a deepwater well in Brazil required a temporary abandonment solution to isolate the lower completion. Halliburton provided a mechanical isolation solution, Intercept® Retrievable Bridge Plug, which was successfully retrieved after 780 days, the longest suspension of an Intercept Retrievable Bridge Plug to date. This demonstrates the Intercept's ability to offer a reliable, gas-tight barrier for short—and long-term temporary abandonment operations.

One of the concerns in Deepwater ERD wells is that if any of the casing/liner runs are designed to go negative weight the pipe may not ride in the slips during connections, requiring calm running conditions, pipe stretch taking up slack, and the potential use of locking slips to keep from ratcheting up. However, another option, utilizing bumper subs, may exist, IF the weights work out. Bumper subs have been used to DRILL uncompensated, utilizing a precise BHA design that allows for the weight of the BHA to equal the required WOB and the string above to be "isolated" from the BHA; this is a similar concept only required when in-slips. Give it some thought; it might help with your upcoming offshore developments. Give HXR a call if you want us to take a second look and work with your team to design and monitor your upcoming wells. Well intervention can significantly increase recovery rates from subsea wells. Our Well Intervention Systems enhance or restore the performance of a well over its operational life. By conducting the well interventions from a dedicated vessel, rather than drill ships or semi-submersibles, emissions from the intervention can be reduced by 50-70%. We were on the verge of completing our task on a South Pars platform when the unexpected happened—nature took a fierce turn. The working wind operation speed was a manageable 20 knots, but within minutes, it surged beyond 40 knots, accompanied by a relentless downpour. The sudden weather shift in the Persian Gulf can only be described as 40 minutes of sheer chaos. Yet, in the midst of the storm, our team had to secure equipment with no room for error. This experience has reinforced a profound realization: conducting rigless operations on a platform with over 10 giant producing wells, especially in winter with the potential for sudden weather changes, is nothing short of a daunting challenge. Safety is paramount, and incidents like these underscore the need for meticulous planning, robust safety protocols, and continuous risk assessment. Offshore operations demand a delicate balance between efficiency and ensuring the well-being of the team. In the aftermath of this intense operation, I can't help but think about how our industry needs to constantly evolve to mitigate risks in the face of unpredictable weather.
