The U.S. energy industry “has fostered world-changing entrepreneurial and innovative activity” that has driven economic growth, more efficient energy production, and reduced pollution, McMorris Rodgers notes. Over the last 50 years, combined air pollutant emissions dropped by 78%, according to the EPA. Emissions reductions occurred as the national GDP increased by 304%, vehicle miles traveled increased 183%, the U.S. population increased over 60%, and energy consumption increased 48%, she said. McMorris Rodgers also cites reports showing how U.S. air quality levels are superior to those reported in countries worldwide, largely credited to the U.S. shale revolution, which “serves as a lesson in the benefits of American energy expansion and accompanying environmental benefits, including reductions in carbon dioxide emissions.” https://lnkd.in/dF9z_4Yp

The UK government is proposing a new support contract for Drax Group Plc’s biomass-fired power plant as it figures out a way to bridge a gap between current subsidies ending and new ones starting in 2030. A “constrained” contract-for-difference model, that would cap the amount of power eligible for payments as well as a kind of profit share with consumers are two of the options outlined in a consultation from the UK’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. The aim of the subsidy is to ensure a guaranteed price. But will there be any decision before a UK election? That's the question.

What do we want to see from Woodside Energy in FY24? Woodside Energy’s portfolio remains dependent on the outlook for gas (>70% of production in 3Q). Since 1Q22, the company has invested 60% more than European majors in oil and gas (on a US$/bbl basis). 🎯 While Woodside has no scope 3 target, the company has a goal to invest US$5 bn in ‘New Energy’ (including hydrogen, ammonia, and CCS) between FY22-FY30 (subject to its meeting return hurdles), this is less than ~10% of group capital expenditure. 🔚 With Australia’s Climate Change minister recently stating “the age of #fossilfuels will end”, Woodside needs to start pursuing diversification in its product mix with commercially feasible technologies if it wants to continue to play a role in Australia’s energy mix. #climatefinance #esginvesting #accelaresearch #oilandgas #sustainablefinance #sustainability #climatetransition #sustainability

Key findings from SEAI’s annual publication on ‘Energy in Ireland, 2023’ 👍 👍 -Energy-related emissions were 1.7% lower. -Energy-related emissions were down from heat (-1.0 MtCO2) and electricity generation (-0.2 MtCO2) -Practically all new electricity demand in the last decade has come from the commercial services sector. 👎 👎 -Ireland imported 81.6% of its total primary energy requirement. 85.8% of Ireland’s primary energy requirement came from fossil fuel. -35.6% of energy-related emissions came from heat, 34.3% came from transport, and 30.1% came from electricity generation.   ****Heat demand in Ireland for industry accounts for 18.04 TWh or 35.2% of demand in 2022****. Much of this heat comes from imported fossil fuels (circa. 85%). -As Irish industries seeks to become more sustainable under the Climate Action Plan, the electrification of heat offers an alternative to fossil fuels and is technology available now.
