It’s now or never. 🎶 #wednesdaywisdom On today’s date, in 1977, Elvis Presley performed for the last time. The legendary singer performed at Market Square Arena in Indianapolis, Indiana, in what would become his last performance While we shouldn’t live in fear about missing opportunities, today’s history factoid offers a great reminder to sieze (and enjoy) the opportunities you have when you have them. For those of us in sales, that moment is upon us this week: we can embrace every opportunity as if it's our last. Channel the urgency of Elvis Presley's timeless lyric, "It's now or never." Don't wait for a better time or the perfect conditions; the perfect moment is now. We can take decisive action, engage with our clients passionately, and close those deals with unwavering determination. Success can hinge on the ability to act swiftly and seize the moment. #thisdayinhistory #endofthequarter #motivation #sales

This article brings me back to my master’s research dissertation, where I delved into leadership and management styles within dance companies. Like described here as “unicorns,” who blend artistic passion with business savvy, in my research, I explored the critical duality between artistic directors and executive directors within dance organizations, using the metaphor of “The Elephant vs. The Dolphin.” A concept that captured one of the biggest leadership challenges: the contrasting responsibilities and imperatives each role holds. Artistic directors (the elephants) are focused on creative success, while executive directors (the dolphins) are tasked with ensuring financial viability and business strategy. This duality often creates a tension between modern business practices and creative thinking, communication, and shared vision. I argued that having two leaders, no matter how well-aligned, naturally leads to conflicts because of the inherent differences in their goals. This interdependence of roles represents a convergence of professional spheres, yet both roles are behaviorally and socially distinct, much like elephants and dolphins. Participants in my study consistently highlighted the importance of mutual understanding and trust between them, recognizing that organizational success depends on it. However, the underlying ambivalence and dualism in their relationship remain the most significant realities of this leadership dynamic. Hence another reason why executive leadership in dance is so difficult.
Arts leaders agree: When it comes to the business of dance, things are hard right now. Really hard. Ticket sales are down. Individual giving is down. Grants are a moving target. And all of it is the purview of executive directors, who are feeling the pressure. 🤘 Embracing Disruption: Punk Rock, Bowie, and Business Culture In the vibrant chords of punk rock, there's a powerful lesson for today's business leaders: Embrace the unconventional. 🎸 Punk rock, more than just a genre of music, has been a guiding philosophy for me. It's about challenging the status quo, embracing the raw and the real. This ethos has been instrumental in my approach to leadership and innovation. In the same way punk rock disrupted the music scene with its unapologetic authenticity, I believe in shaking up traditional business models and operating norms with unconventional strategies. 👨🎤 David Bowie, my favorite musician, was a maestro of metamorphosis. His unparalleled ability to reinvent himself mirrors the adaptability I strive for in the business world. Bowie taught me that evolution isn't just about survival – it's about thriving. His fearlessness in transformation is a constant reminder to stay agile and forward-thinking in my career. Creating a dynamic business culture, to me, is like producing a great punk album or a Bowie classic – it's about harmonizing diverse talents and perspectives while daring to be different. In my leadership journey, I've learned that fostering a culture where innovation is celebrated and change is embraced is key to building a resilient and impactful organization. Drawing from my punk rock roots, I aim to lead in a way that's as impactful as a power chord and as visionary as Ziggy Stardust. In our quest for efficiency and growth, let's not forget the lessons from these icons of music: Be bold, be different, and continually evolve. That's how you create a business culture that not only thrives but also sets the stage for a legacy as enduring as the most iconic rock legends. #Leadership #Innovation #BusinessCulture #DavidBowie #PunkRockLegacy

UNIQUE JOURNEY + LUCK = OUR OWN STORY In business, much like in life, we each have our unique journey and our share of luck. Taylor Swift's story beautifully illustrates this. The first photo shows a time when her concerts weren't selling out, while the second photo captures her performing to a sold-out crowd. Taylor's journey to success wasn't instant. It took relentless dedication, continuous improvement, and an unshakable belief in her vision. Her story reminds us that success is often a mix of hard work and fortunate timing. In our own business endeavors, we may face challenges and moments of doubt. But it's essential to keep pushing forward, stay true to our goals, and seize opportunities as they come. Remember, every setback is a setup for a comeback. #BusinessJourney #Perseverance #NeverGiveUp #Success #TaylorSwift #Inspiration Learn more on what I do at www.redcircleglobal.com Connect with me at ceo@redcircleglobal.com

From Setbacks to Stardom: 16 Remarkable Journeys .!!! When someone’s extremely successful, it’s normal to think that they were always successful. But that is usually far from the truth. Even successful people have had their fair share of failures in their lives and had to fail time and time again before finally getting their big break. We hope their stories will build your confidence, while motivating you to continue on your journey despite any mishaps. Good Monday LinkedIn Family! Jay Z's profound words last night struck a chord deep within my fellow New Yorker soul, sparking thoughts that transcend just the moment. It immediately brought to mind some Oscar Nomination insights I recently discussed with my FB/IG crew (especially one attached), revealing an all too familiar cross-industry theme and striking relevance. Some may say Jay-Z was defending his wife; indeed, it's personal. But the depth surpasses the personal—it echoes through generations before him, those alongside him, and those trailblazing after. For added context on the why, tone, and timing of his speech, let's delve into the GRAMMYs Album of the Year stats, offering a visual data touch: 🏆 **Years of Grammy Existence:** 65 years **Album of the Year Winners:** - White Artists (Wins): 48 (approx 74%) - Black Artists (Wins): 13 (approx 20%) Note: 4 winners included PoC, often in compilations or duos/groups, exception being Bruno Mars solo. 🌟 **Black Artists Album of the Year Winners:** - 🐐Stevie Wonder - 1974, 1975, 1977 - Michael Jackson - 1984 - Lionel Richie - 1985 - Quincy Jones - 1991 - Natalie Cole - 1992 - Whitney Houston (kinda) - 1994 (BodyGuard Soundtrack) - Lauryn Hill - 1999 - OutKast - 2004 - Ray Charles - 2005 (posthumously) - Herbie Hancock - 2008 - Jon Batiste - 2022 Fascinatingly, this data reflects senior leadership representation in America's workforce, and in some cases these stats would be an improvement. Watching HOV (JAY Z) stand with agency and power champion activism in his industry led me to this question: Those of you in influential positions across Private, City, State, even Non-Profit spaces, when and what was the last truth you spoke to power? #deekendrix #jayz #grammys #equity #consciousleadership #foodforthought

Effortlessly energetic. A business leader helping organizations unlock the potential within their leaders
People rarely succeed unless they have fun in what they’re doing. This is one of my all time favorite quotes by Dale Carnegie and I saw it in action this week. I was in New Orleans for a business retreat and we spent Tuesday afternoon listening to music on Bourbon Street. We stumbled across this tiny bar called Fritzels. There were maybe 5 people listening to this man, Richard Scott, play piano and sing. We stopped in and stayed for about 2 hours. He was unbelievable. Not only was he musically talented, he had fun! This was not a sold out Jazz club with hundreds of people, but he played like it was. You couldn’t help but be drawn to him. Sometimes we hold ourselves back from having fun and going all in because we think it’s not the right time. We give ourselves excuses as to why we can’t have fun yet or why we can’t fully commit to something. If you love what you’re doing, have fun with it, no matter the size of the audience. When you have fun, it will attract others to want to work with you and you’ll enjoy your time a lot more. #growthmindset #leadership #progressoverperfection

7 INSPIRING LESSONS FROM TAYLOR Last weekend, many of my friends had an unforgettable time at Taylor Swift’s sold-out Eras Tour. Taylor Swift has transcended from a young country singer to become a global pop sensation and business-savvy leader, setting a new record for the highest-grossing music tour ever. She has created true followership - an exceptionally rare and powerful quality in any field! So, how has she done it and kept her sanity? Here are some of Taylor’s leadership lessons with my reflections: 1. 𝗡𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲, 𝗯𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲. As my Dad says ‘kindness is a virtue’ and we are all in the business of people. 2. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂! People throw rocks at things that shine. Everyone has a voice, but remember not everyone has a vote. 3. 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗵𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂, 𝗶𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘁. Concentrate on what you can control. 4. 𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗽 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴. Stepping away from things is not a sign of weakness. 5. 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗰𝗲𝘀, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗽𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿. Choose them wisely. 6. 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝗳𝗳. Let those negative comments slide off like Teflon and not stick like Velcro. 7. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲. Treat appointments with yourself with the same respect and priority as you would a crucial meeting with you boss! #taylorswift #leadershiplessons #leadership #femaleleader #businessleadership #successstories #inspiration Photo via IG @tstourtips_
