Everyone falls in love with Bob. He’s smart, funny and has all the connections. The CEO of Northwell was at his daughters wedding. He allegedly plays golf with the C- suite at Aetna. I’ve spent a lot of time in my career working in healthcare and also as a caregiver navigating healthcare. It continues to baffle me as to why trauma-informed care is not the standard of care in this system. Especially since it directly impacts patient experience, staff experience, burnout prevention, and more bottom line influencers. Having been inside these systems, I know why this very needed and uncomplicated approach is not adopted AND I’m also not willing to settle for it. Out of genuine curiousty, why aren’t healthcare leaders prioritizing a solutions focused approach like trauma-informed care into their culture of care for patients and the workforce? It’s 2024, my hope is we can finally see a release in the stagnation of this approach being widely adopted into healthcare. And not just in some specialties but across the board. We shouldn’t need champions to make this happen, we should be able to do it because it’s what’s best for us all.
