Education lesson learned? It is now beyond controversy that Charter Schools overall provide a better education than traditional public schools, particularly for those who need it the most. Normally, Democrats are so tied to teacher unions they will not let themselves do the right thing to improve education. Now, in New York City,at least in this instance the "{City's] Panel for Educational Policy voted 19-0 for more classroom space for the Success Academy High School of the Liberal Arts-Harlem, which will help add a Grade 12 for its students. Getting space for charters has become a chokepoint to meet growing demand." One might ask why the turn around? It is simple. Traditional government schools, historically free from any competition are now facing a competitive market for education. And, with Charter Schools out-performing them, they have no real choice but to up their game, which is good for the students. Yet, another example of how market competition encourages improvement. "In 2006 charters were getting started in the city and accounted for only 6% of district 5’s population. Back then only about a third—36%—of district 5’s students were proficient in math and English on state standardized tests. By 2023 the percentage of the district’s students who tested proficient in the combined scores had risen to 51%. This was almost all because of charters." "How do we know? Because over the same period of time the number of students in charters increased tenfold, to 62%. In 2023 charter students tested at 66% proficient in math and 59% in English. At the same time the performance of students in the traditional union-run schools dipped slightly. The percentage of district 5 charter students testing proficient was almost twice that of children in the same district’s traditional public schools."

New York’s latest test scores show why families are fleeing the public schools QUOTE: It’s easy to see why the State Education Department stalled on releasing the latest English and math test scores for grades 3-8, and why New Yorkers won’t get the final (whitewashed) results until November: They show fewer than half of all kids statewide scoring grade-level-proficient or better in English; just 52% in math. And, for those that took the science exam, even worse: just 35%. The kids took the multiple-choice tests back in April and May: SED has no excuse for the absurdly long time in releasing even preliminary results; officials’ protest that they’re trying to produce them “as quickly as possible to improve classroom instruction” is total smoke. All the tests do now is help expose the failure of public schools to educate our kids (especially those in poor and minority neighborhoods) — which is why SED, the Regents and the unions are pushing to ditch standardized testing entirely. The educrats should be so ashamed they’d commit seppuku.Instead, Education Commissioner Betty Rosa, Regents Chancellor Lester Young & Co. just push for ever-greater school spending. New York leads the nation in education spending but ranks near the bottom when it comes to student achievement. Families fed up with New York’s public schools are fleeing to private academies, charter schools, home-schooling — and other states. Good for them: With state leaders bent on doing nothing but hide the truth while sucking up ever more cash, those parents would be insane to stay.

Education Reform Ideas 📝 Option to Switch Schools for Class 10th and Class 12th We demand that students who have completed Class 9th in one school should have the option to switch to another school for Class 10th, and similarly, students who have completed Class 11th in one school should have the option to switch to another school for Class 12th! The Oklahoma State Department of Education is offering $15,000 to $25,000 signing bonuses to attract secondary math and science teachers to rural schools for the 2024-25 school year. State Superintendent Ryan Walters highlighted the initiative's success in bringing over 500 educators back to Oklahoma schools last year. However, the program faced controversy when some teachers were mistakenly awarded bonuses and asked to repay them. Public K-12 school grades that were released today show continued improvement over last year. In 2024, nearly 1,300 schools earned an “A” grade, a 6% point increase over 2023. I'm proud of the charter schools I work with -- a majority continued to make gains and/or show improvements. Of the 602 charter schools graded in 2024, 69% received an “A” or “B" and 14% earned an “A” for the 3rd consecutive year. https://lnkd.in/ePPhd3BA

Excerpts from “The effectiveness of homeschooling students with special needs.” By Dr. Steven Duvall (A chapter in Home schooling in full view: A reader, 2005, edited by B. S. Cooper) “A growing body of evidence indicates that homeschool students with special needs may outperform their similarly disabled peers who attend public schools” (p. 151). “But regardless of a parents’ rationale to homeschool their children, when their children have special needs, parents can encounter opposition from local education and social agencies” (p. 153). “Most of the arguments against teaching students at home have involved issues surrounding teacher training and socialization” (p. 153). “Parents often lack formal teacher preparation and certification, and it has been suggested that this hinders their ability to teach effectively” (p. 153). “Researchers have found that parents engaged in the same teaching behaviors as certified regular and special educators in public schools… The occurrence of any of these behaviors differed by less than 5% between the two groups” (p. 153). “The criticisms involving parents’ lack of formal training are likely to be overstated” (p. 154). BREITBART: LOUISIANA BECOMES FIRST STATE TO REQUIRE TEN COMMANDMENTS TO BE DISPLAYED IN PUBLIC SCHOOL CLASSROOMS … Louisiana has passed legislation requiring the display of the Ten Commandments in public school classrooms, including state-funded universities. Efforts to restore the commandments to public schools also are active in other states, including Texas, Oklahoma, and Utah … The Supreme Court recently ruled that the Ten Commandments “have historical significance as one of the foundations of our legal system” and represent a “common cultural heritage.” The bill further states that “Recognizing the historical role of the Ten Commandments accords with our nation’s history and faithfully reflects the understanding of the founders of our nation with respect to the necessity of civil morality to a function self-government” … The bill also allows, but does not require, the display of Mayflower Compact, the Declaration of Independence, and the Northwest Ordinance. The bill mandates that displays be paired with a four-paragraph context statement, in which the Ten Commandments are described as “a prominent part of American public education for almost three centuries.” Public school classrooms from kindergarten to universities must have the displays no later than January 1, 2025.
