Every organization should invest in CPR training for its employees. This article brings home how urgent and critical this response can be for someone experiencing cardiac arrest and how it can make the difference between life and death. (Just ask General Smith, the survivor described in this Post story, or Damar Hamlin of the Buffalo Bills). Why should employers pay for this? *Because it ensures our teams are prepared to handle emergencies while waiting for first responders to aid staff or visitors to whom we owe a duty of care.* It is also a way to demonstrate your commitment to the communities we serve since these skills can also come in handy out in the world. When I led risk management at Aspen, I made sure every employee was given the opportunity to take CPR training at each office location and offered remote employees a reimbursement for training near their homes. The cost is minimal and in some cases may be offered for free by your local EMS. In even the best of circumstances, calling 911 will mean precious minutes are lost waiting for first responders (and if you live in DC or New Orleans, it could be much longer.) Although people may be scared to provide CPR for fear they will do it wrong or will harm the person, in reality the worst harm will be caused by doing nothing. And if you’re grossed out by the idea of giving mouth-to-mouth to a stranger, then skip it. Chest compressions alone can still make a huge difference. If your organization is committed to making the world a better place then show it by offering all employees the opportunity to take CPR training. #riskmanagement #emergencypreparedness

Lately I've been actively taking online training courses through FEMA and DHS to enhance my skills in Emergency Management. My latest course was "You Are the Help Until Help Arrives," offered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. This course taught me the basics on how to react to an emergency before first responders arrive - from first aid, to emotional support. This course was quick, informative, and interesting!

Lead Paramedic & Operational Commander | Specialising in Major Incident Management | Committed to Emergency Response & Crisis Management
I’m excited to share that I recently had the opportunity to complete a course with the World Health Organization on the deliberate release of chemical and biological agents. This is an area I was somewhat unfamiliar with, apart from the knowledge I gained during my time in the Army. As a Lead Paramedic covering the role of Operational Commander, it's crucial to identify gaps in my knowledge and seek ways to enhance my skills, especially in emerging areas like this. Preparedness in the face of such threats is vital, and this course has helped me expand my understanding of the complex risks and response strategies involved. It’s a reminder of how important continuous learning is in our profession, ensuring we’re always ready to protect and support our communities, no matter what challenges we face. #LeadParamedic #ContinuousLearning #WHO #OperationalCommand #EmergencyResponse #ProfessionalDevelopment

Our first TECC course of #2024 starts January 11th! TECC is suitable for people working in civilian #highthreat #prehospital environments. NAEMT’s Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) course presents the three phases of tactical care and integrates parallel EMS nomenclature: - Hot Zone/Direct Threat Care that is rendered while under attack or in adverse conditions. - Warm Zone/Indirect Threat Care that is rendered while the threat has been suppressed but may resurface at any point. - Cold Zone/Evacuation Care that is rendered while the casualty is being evacuated from the incident site. TECC courses have been designed to improve the quality of trauma care and decrease mortality. Find out more: https://buff.ly/3qBefBU #tecc #prehospital #prehospitalcare #trauma #firstresponder

🚨 CALL TO ACTION! The Fire Grants and Safety Act (S.870/H.R.4090) is up for consideration in the U.S. Government's FY2024 appropriations package. This vital program helps fund numerous critical programs, including CFITrainer.net, IAAI's free online training platform. Please consider supporting this worthwhile program by letting your Representatives and Senators know about its value. We hope you will urge them to include the bill in the latest appropriations package before it expires. The Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) and Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) programs are critical to ensuring that Fire and EMS departments have the equipment, staffing, and training needed to ensure the health and safety of their personnel and the citizens they protect. Despite the significant needs of Fire and EMS personnel nationwide, AFG and SAFER will sunset this year unless they are reauthorized. Contact your Representative and Senator and encourage them to support this important funding issue! #SAFERGrant #NFPA #IAAI #MNIAAI #TakeAction #CalltoAction International Association of Arson Investigators #FireFighter #FireDepartment #FireMarshal #FireInvestigator

Our hyper-realistic training, led by a former Special Ops Medic, immerses participants in life-like crisis scenarios. The training features unique tools like a special gel body dummy, equipped with lights that indicate when the correct amount of pressure is applied to stop the bleed, a skill often underestimated. This hands-on approach prepares individuals to act effectively as first responders, potentially saving lives in emergencies. First aid & workplace safety training delivered by Veterans. Royal Marine & Prison Officer veteran & FREC 4 responder. Advice & acquisition of Automated External Defibrillators.
This is most of the general public when sent in a first aid emergency to go and fetch the nearest Public Access Defibrillator (AED) … “The what?” 🫣 9 /10 people WILL DIE if they suffer a Sudden Cardiac Arrest out of hospital. FACT. By stander intervention with CPR and use of an AED is there best hope. If the public knew how to recognise early if someone is not breathing normally and how to perform CPR, If they were not thinking about being sued, hurting someone who is technically dead or looking silly on some randoms Insta live, If they had an ounce of environmental & situational awareness and knew where the closest AED was to them at anyone time and how to speed their operation up, If they had actually booked some Proper no-nonsense hands on training and prepared for this moment rather than saying “yeah I thought about once, but I wanted to finish watching the last episode of the Crown” Then maybe, just maybe we could start improving the chances for the 30’000 + people that will suffer a SCA next year. Get on it please 🙏🏻 book some training NOW, we really don’t care if you train with us, just please please make sure it is practical and that you do your diligence.
