The fire experienced increased fire activity in the Machine Creek area Friday afternoon, which produced a large smoke column. However, other areas of the fire weren’t as windy, which allowed firefighters to work directly along the fire’s edge, resulting in minimal growth toward Kennedy Meadows. Today, firefighters continue to clear vegetation along Sherman Pass Rd. as the fire approaches. If necessary, strategic burns off Sherman Pass Rd. may be conducted to create a larger buffer ahead of the fire. Crews will also continue building control lines along the southern perimeter and Machine Creek area. In all areas of both complex fires, fire managers are strategically directing specific actions and deploying equipment to meet the exact needs of each location. Last night, unmanned aerial systems were used to begin strategically burning portions of the Trout Fire’s northern perimeter to reduce fire intensity as it approaches Sherman Pass Road. Vegetation clearance is being established around structures near each fire, and a mobile retardant base has been established to allow helicopter retardant drops with faster turnaround times. This tailored approach ensures that resources are used effectively and that tactics can be adapted to the dynamic conditions of the fires. https://lnkd.in/gCEyhx5Q

Read and watch the story below courtesy of Fox32 Chicago: https://lnkd.in/dkvapE3h ###### Last night’s (Monday) storms brought significant damage to our communities across ComEd’s service territory impacting critical infrastructure, shutting down a major interstate highway (I-55) and leaving more than 450,000 customers without power. Thanks to the hard work of our lineworkers and team, more than 300,000 customer outages have already been restored. But we have a long way to go. The damage is extensive, as the storm spawned at least 10 confirmed #tornadoes and generated wind gusts of over 70 mph, causing significant destruction across northern Illinois. For this reason, we’re doubling field forces to 3,000 working to support restoration today (Tuesday), with mutual assistance being provided by external utility partners, including 300 crews from Canada. We are also opening up Joint Operation Centers (JOC’s) in Joliet, Streator and University Park in partnership with local government OEMs so that we can fully respond to the needs on the ground for some of our region’s most heavily impacted communities. But given the severity of the storm and the need for further assessment, we have taken an all-hands on deck approach to storm restoration. Based on current projections, we anticipate that 80 percent of customer outages will be restored Wednesday, with full and permanent restoration on Friday. P.S. I would like to thank Governor JB Pritzker for issuing a letter yesterday to the U.S. Customs and Boarder Patrol to facilitate expediting the travel of Canadian crews into our service territory and assist in restoration. #StormRestoration #PowerRestoration #SevereWeatherEvent #Tornadoes
