Alastair Crooke ex MI6 and British Diplomat with decades of experience in Middle East hostage negotiations and peace brokering. Israel is at a fork in the road. Does it accept defeat in Gaza by Hamas, defeat in the North by Hezbollah, the loss of deterrence across the region and loss of legitimacy in the eyes of the World? Or does it escalate further? If Israel escalates to continue to try and drag US into a wider war, the Iranian nuclear facilities will still be deep inside tunnels in mountains and unreachable. Iran has no nuclear weapons and is not building any. Despite what we read in Western mainstream media the retaliation by Iran for the murder of it's citizens in the Israeli attack on its Consulate in Damascus was a success. A new equation has been formulated which says, Iran will no longer accept Israeli assassinations or attacks on its territory without responding directly from Iran. The drones were sent precisely to be shot down just as in Ukraine-Russia war. Iran will have learned much by mapping the Israeli defence systems. The low flying cruise missiles and ballistic missiles were fired at military targets. Ballistic missiles successfully penetrated the Israeli multilayered defences hitting an Air Force Intelligence Centre In Israel and an intelligence collection building on the occupied Golan Heights. Not counting the cost of US, UK, French, Jordanian military interceptions, Israel calculates 1.3 billion dollars cost for their defensive missiles alone. Clearly not sustainable. The majority of US and UK interceptions came from Naval assets in the region. From my own observations that is also not sustainable as the ships have to return to a friendly port to re-arm. https://lnkd.in/ekD97Mvz
