How many of you remember that in many Indian #towns and #cities we had tricycles like this for small goods transport? It's use case for getting kids around is great, but good infrastructure is a MUST to enable it. Directorate of Urban Land Transport - Get active on the #ActiveMobilityBill please. We're supporting Hounslow Travel Active with the All-Ability Cycling Hub, Inwood Park. Thanks to London Marathon Foundation, there's a newly expanded range of inclusive and non-standard cycles for Hounslow residents with physical and learning disabilities. It was brilliant to see residents turn out to give the new bikes a spin back and children took turns on a smoothie making bike. Despite it being a drizzly day, everyone agreed that all ability cycling is a great way to open up peddle power to all. 🎦 Read and watch more below:

Good "advices" from the Velo-city 2024: Making the benefits of cycling an election issue Coined as the biggest election year in history, prioritising cycling policies as a key election issue is a growing concern. On the 't Kuipke stage, a fireside chat brought together advocates from across Europe to discuss the strategic role of elections in advancing cycling policies and the importance of a cross-party approach. Moderated by Froso Christofides, Director of Members & Networks at the European Cyclists' Federation, the panelists were questioned about how to raise support for cycling. A common theme was the necessity of linking cycling to broader topics to secure funding and political support. A resonating answer? “Don’t talk about cycling.” When advocating for cycling at the national level, creating unexpected alliances is essential. This involves interlinking the multiple benefits of cycling such as reduced traffic congestion, air pollution, greater public health and more people-friendly streets and many others. Aiming to engage with parties across the political spectrum ensures cycling remains a relevant issue in electoral discussions to foster green urban mobility across Europe. #cycling #velocity2024 #advocating #crosspartyapproach #bicikliranje #bicikl #lifestyle

Case Study - Cycling Development in Utrecht, Netherlands 🇳🇱 How can Hong Kong step forward to become a cycling-friendly city? We may gain some insights from other places. Taking Utrecht as an example, it has been called the best cycling city in the world, with the largest bicycle parking area and a well-developed network. Cycling and walking are considered the major modes of transport. In the downtown area (Vredenburg), vehicles are prohibited in designated areas except for buses, bikes, and pedestrians. This reduces traffic and improves the city's air quality. However, it is impossible to copy Utrecht’s success in Hong Kong. Every city has its own features and limitations. We have to find the best approach for the local community, which requires significant input from both the government and the public. There is still a long way to go to reach our vision. Let’s work together and keep pushing! 🔥 Photo credit: Gemeente Utrecht Article reference: Gemeente Utrecht. (n.d.). Our policy on cycling. Retrieved September 1, 2024, from https://lnkd.in/gc38tmcB

The European Cycling Declaration was signed today. A big moment recognising #cycling as a full mode of transport, deserving of the same level of political and financial attention as other transport modes. But it's more than that. It recognises that people ride bikes for leisure, for tourism; there's a big cycling industry in Europe that creates jobs and supports sustainable businesses. It recognises that people of all backgrounds and income levels should have access to bikes, and that cycling should be among the things children learn as they grow up. Do you always say hello to other cyclists on the road? EMBRACING THE CYCLING COMMUNITY: "NOT TOO PRO TO SAY HELLO" There’s something magical about the open road, the rhythmic turning of pedals, and the wind against your face as you cruise on two wheels. Cycling isn’t just a sport or a mode of transport; it’s a lifestyle, a passion, and for many, a community. Yet, amidst this community, a curious phenomenon has emerged: the silent cyclist. You’ve seen them. You may even be one of them. The cyclists who ride past without so much as a nod or a wave. It’s as if acknowledging a fellow rider is a sign of weakness, a mark of the amateur. But we believe it’s time to change that narrative. That’s why we launched our new cycling cap with a bold statement: "Not too pro to say hello." BREAKING THE SILENCE The idea behind this message is simple yet powerful. Cycling is a universal language spoken around the world. Whether you’re riding in the bustling streets of New York, the serene countryside of France, or the winding roads of Flanders, there’s an unspoken bond among cyclists. However, too often, this bond is left unspoken. When you greet another cyclist, it’s more than just a friendly gesture. It’s an acknowledgment of shared passion and effort. A simple wave, a nod, or even just raising a finger from the handlebars can bridge the gap between strangers and reinforce the sense of community that makes cycling special. #NotTooProToSayHello #CyclingCulture #CyclingCommunity Read our blog post: https://lnkd.in/e3GQ2iJB

My short thoughts on pro cycling's business model....
We are in the middle of cycling's 'Holy Week' in Belgium - the week between the Sunday of the Tour of Flanders and the Sunday of Paris-Roubaix. The best teams and riders in the world race these one-day classics and hundreds of thousands of spectators line the routes in Flanders and northern France. Due to the nature of the event, the organisers are not able to charge spectators an entry fee. Their revenue comes from broadcast rights. Do the organisers share that revenue with the athletes? No, is the short answer. How do riders get paid? Their teams get sponsorship deals worth 20, 30, 40 or 50 million Euros annually. Are these sponsorships value for money? Great question - who knows? There have been many efforts to change the business model, but so far, none have worked. Perhaps the sport needs a European version of 1980s Australian Kerry Packer as a disrupter? Anyway, we will be amongst the crowds in 2025 and riding our own roads during Holy Week at our Spring Classics tour. https://lnkd.in/gj_ubvy2
