Children and their parents often feel anxious about a first eye exam. Here are a few tips to help make the experience smoother: 1️⃣ Familiarize them with the environment: Visit the doctor’s website together to see photos of the office and doctor, making it feel more comfortable and familiar. 2️⃣ Bring a comfort item: I often “examine” a child’s favorite stuffed animal first. This makes my equipment, like the headset, seem less intimidating. 3️⃣ Explore options: For children on the spectrum or those with strong sensitivities, we can adapt the exam into parts. While rare, alternatives exist if traditional dilation is too difficult. 4️⃣ Prepare in advance: I’ve written a blog post with step-by-step guidance, including photos, to help your child understand what to expect. #Ophthalmology #PediatricEyeCare #EyeExam #Parenting #Pediatrics #EyeHealth

In children, scoliosis often manifests through asymmetrical posture. This includes uneven shoulders, ribcage, waist, and balance between arms. Such asymmetries are significant, especially during growth phases. Pediatricians should take any asymmetrical findings seriously and recommend regular checks during rapid growth periods. Early detection and monitoring are crucial in managing scoliosis and preventing severe progression. #ScoliosisAwareness #ChildHealth #MedicalAdvice #EarlyDetection #GrowthSpurts #PostureCheck #SpineHealth #Pediatrics #ChildDevelopment #HealthManagement

Children who have experienced trauma, often miss out on skills needed to participate in daily activities because they cannot focus due to a dysregulated nervous system. Along with setting their nervous system up for success, it is our role as occupational therapists and caregivers to guide our children in understanding the purpose behind activities. Because if children have a hard time seeing the purpose behind activities, there will not be by in to engage in them. #bayareaot #occupationaltherapy #pediatricoccupationaltherapy #pediatricot #pediatrics #earlyintervention #therapygroup #therapygroups #trauma #understandingtrauma #traumaresponse #dysregulation #nervoussystem #howtofocus #focus #tellmeatimetuesday
