Giving Day at Cornell Law School is also Pi Day (3.14)! In honor of all our favorite Pi(e)s (🥧🍕♾️), here are three ways you can be a “piece” of something bigger: 🎓 Fuel scholarship support for talented students. Today, 8 in 10 Cornell Law students receive scholarships and financial aid. As a result, the debt load of students at graduation is lower than it has been in many years. With your support, this exciting trend will continue. 📚 Provide resources to Cornell Law’s unique clinics and practicums. These programs help Cornell Law students acquire the practical skills and experience to represent a diversity of clients in need of legal services. Your support funds 27 specialized clinics and practicums that provide life-changing learning opportunities. 🇺🇸 Support veterans in need of legal services. The Veterans Law Practicum provides a vital service to our community’s veterans. With your help, we can expand our services, and enable students and faculty to increase their caseloads. When we join forces as one Cornell Law community for #CornellGivingDay, we can make a remarkable impact. Join us on Thursday for celebration of the promise and potential of the next generation of Cornell lawyers. Learn more here: https://bit.ly/3PcrFNG

The 70th anniversary of the Brown v. Board of Education ruling is a few months away – let’s talk about it… On May 17, 1954, the landmark Brown v. Board case ruled racial segregation in public schools unconstitutional – years later, once legally mandated efforts were in full swing, graduation rates among Black students increased, along with adult economic well-being. Latino students benefit from school integration too, and it’s well documented in California during the years following Mendez v. Westminster, often described as a groundbreaking precursor to Brown. Despite integration being a proven method to improve access to resources, and therefore educational outcomes, we have given up on it in most parts of the country. Today schools are still as segregated as they were in the 1960s. 70 years later the promise of Brown is still unfulfilled, and we still don’t have integrated, well-resourced schools. This upcoming anniversary should be a moment to restart progress. Join the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc., Brown's Promise, and Columbia Law School to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education and strategize where we go from here. Register for our event on 4/4 here! https://lnkd.in/gzHqkran

As we closeout February, we're reflecting on Creighton Law's pursuit for social justice and a more equitable world. Over the past couple of years, we've taken significant strides. Here are just a few examples: 👩⚖️ New Legal Clinics: We've launched 2 new legal clinics - The Juvenile Justice Legal Clinic and the Bankruptcy Clinic - dedicated to serving our local community. 🤝 Community Collaboration: Our Juvenile Justice Clinic has expanded to partner with the Department of Social Work and Creighton Law's Community Connections. Together, we're providing vital resources and working to prevent youth in Omaha from entering the criminal justice system. 📚 New Course: "Race and the Law" delving into the crucial intersection of race and legal principles. 🌍 Public Interest Law Forum: Introducing the "Public Interest Law Forum," a platform fostering awareness of the issues faced by under-represented communities. Through this organization, we strive to address the needs of the underprivileged within our community. At Creighton Law, we're not just educating legal professionals; we're teaching them to 'Go Forward and Seek Justice.' https://lnkd.in/eaHnhyhJ
