Having trouble with carcase data and MSA compliance? Using Black Box’s MSA dashboard, Matt first identified the pH discounts from each consignment of livestock and clarified the impact these were having on their bottom line. “It showed the variation in cents per kilo between animals that graded MSA versus those that didn’t, over a three-year period. On a 300kg carcase, there was a difference of 49 cents per kilo between what graded MSA and what didn't, and that equated to $147 per beast,” he said. “If you multiply that across 1500 head sold to the abattoir each year, where 20 per cent are not meeting MSA compliance, you’re out of pocket $42,600." 🐂💪Have a read about how Matt reduced that loss by over $30,000 per year. https://lnkd.in/g8Rqembg

The broiler chicken market in India is primarily a live chicken market, with only fifteen percent of chicken sold as processed. Consequently, live chicken sales play a dominant role in determining prices. Ultimately, the harvesting of broiler chickens is influenced by the demand and supply model. Due to the unpredictable weights of harvested chickens, we have been unable to standardize the placement density of broiler chicks. At times, we find that more market-aged broiler birds die during the last week of the flock. Is it the weight density of the broiler chickens or the placement density of the chicks that affects the deep body temperature of market-aged broiler birds in India, given that we harvest broiler chickens at different weights? We should standardize both the placement density of broiler chicks and the harvested weight to improve market outcomes. I would also like to acknowledge the good initiatives by the UGA Poultry Extension Department, which is working on weight density of chickens and air speed. As the Breedr team is heading to Cattle Con National Cattlemen's Beef Association this week it seems a good time to reflect on the last 18 months; moving the family from the UK to Texas, working with some of the most exciting supply chains in the industry, and sadly losing my dad at 91 last Easter. It was my father Guy Wheal who inspired me to build Breedr; a company that at its heart supports ranchers and the meat supply chain to produce better beef more efficiently, using data to prove the enhanced quality. My dad always said that you make your own luck through hard work, being good to others and learning from your mistakes. We built Breedr to support and empower ranchers, cow calf, beef on dairy, backgrounders, feedyards, packers and even retailers to produce exceptional beef in a sustainable, life-enriching way. So to the Pioneers of American Beef who have for centuries innovated to build new businesses; thank you for your support on our journey in the US.
