"My Mind Says Yes My body Says No" Panel: U.S. International Partnerships Are Strong, Ability to Integrate Networks Is Not By Kimberly Underwood; 21 Feb 2024 Partnerships with like-minded international rule-following nations mean that the U.S. military must have networks that work with allies as the services conduct combined operations across the globe. The United States and its allies and partners need to greatly advance the integration of their networks and digital enterprises to operate more successfully, especially in the face of near-peer aggression, leaders warned. Challenges abound on many levels, said U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Mark Miles, director, C4, J6, U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM); Canada’s Brig. Gen. Kyle Paul, deputy commanding general, Transformation, Space Operations Command; and U.S. Air Force Col. James Austin, deputy director, Cyber Operations, U.S. European Command (EUCOM), J63, speaking at the AFCEA Rocky Mountain Cyberspace Symposium 2024, held in Colorado Springs, Colorado. For Gen. Miles at INDOPACOM with about 30 partners, the sheer number of networks in the Mission Partner Environment (MPE) is large while network instances are usually small in scale. The larger networks are episodic, created for a big exercise in the region and then shut down. It’s official! The Army recently launched the new cloud-based Enterprise-Identity Credential and Access Management (E-ICAM) application and successfully onboarded four large Army systems into the Identity Governance and Administration (IGA) capability, providing complete visibility for “who, what, where and how” a system or person accesses their networks. This first implementation of E-ICAM cloud-based capabilities lays the foundation for the Army’s Zero Trust initiative, which adopts the “trust no one” mantra by assuming no users or assets will be given implicit trust based solely on their physical or network location. Since 2005 I've been the Warfighter or supported the Warfighter. I consider my role since my EAS from the Marine Corps to be a contributor back to todays Warfighter... Since 2019 I've been supporting the Airmen and the USAF Mission. Oracle's government cloud service has achieved authorization to host secret classified data, meeting the Defense Information Systems Agency's stringent Impact Level 6 requirements. This means Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is now available to defense and intelligence agencies at all classification levels, including top secret, marking a significant step in Oracle's role in supporting U.S. military and intelligence missions. Rand Waldron, Oracle's vice president, emphasized the importance of technology in military operations and highlighted Oracle's commitment to delivering top-tier capabilities at competitive costs to meet the needs of America's warfighters. The Army has launched the first phase of the Global Commercial Solutions for Classified (CSfC) program, aiming to protect classified information using commercial security technologies. By next summer, the initiative, which includes implementing a secure internet protocol router (SIPR)-consolidated security suite (SCSS), is expected to achieve initial operational capability, enabling soldiers to access classified networks globally. Lt. Col. Xkoshan Arnold highlighted the significance of the Global Secure Network, an enterprise solution for routing classified traffic over commercial networks. The Global Enterprise Network Modernization—Americas product office, part of Project Manager Integrated Enterprise Network (IEN), is modernizing Army facilities' networks. The unified network plan, aiming to integrate tactical and enterprise networks by 2027, is a priority. Voice modernization efforts, including phasing out legacy phone systems by 2025, are also underway. Additionally, the Comprehensive Modernization (COMPMOD) Program will support IT system upgrades.
