The Battle of Lone Tree Hill virtual staff ride examines the efforts of the 158th Regimental Combat Team and the 6th Infantry Division in securing the northern coast of New Guinea in support of the broader campaign to liberate the Philippines in 1944. The focus is to discuss offensive operations and multi-domain operations at the battalion and higher levels, but it is particularly well suited for company leaders and above. https://lnkd.in/g8DPNvEd #staffrideteam #virtualstaffrides

The British Army has successfully completed the acceptance of its new Archer 6x6 self-propelled howitzers, marking a significant advancement in its artillery capabilities. Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) has accepted an additional 10 Archer artillery systems along with 13 Ammunition Resupply Vehicles from Sweden. These additions bring the total number of Archers in the British Army to 14. This acquisition follows a rapid procurement process initiated last year, in response to the UK’s commitment to providing 32 AS90 self-propelled guns to Ukraine. DE&S and the UK Army demonstrated remarkable agility, negotiating the initial deal with Sweden in just two months. This swift procurement underscores DE&S’ capability to quickly fulfil the Army’s requirements. The Archer howitzer, an interim replacement for the AS90s, is based on the renowned Bofors FH77 field howitzer. It features an automated 155 mm 52-calibre gun mounted on a 6×6 articulated hauler, designed for rapid deployment with a firing range exceeding 50 km. The system is fully automated, allowing loading, laying, and firing to be managed from inside the armoured cabin, ensuring full protection for the crew. Some data points for you datacenter junkies that we all should be made aware (I’m sure someone will fact check) ahead of this November election. I am not politically motivated in any way, so spare me the left and right points of view on this matter as there’s only one point of you in my opinion and that is that of our country. I do not understand how our government can be this out of whack, and how we have so many people leading and making laws for our country that have no idea what it’s like to serve the country as a combat veteran or simply being an administrative assistant in the military. Anyway, if LinkedIn wants to modify this post again, and put words in my mouth again, so be it. Here is the data that a grouo of former Force Recon, SEALs and other Special Forces operatives sent to me this past week: The Average age of U. S. Servicemen/women, all services combined, is 28.5 Average age of U. S. Congress is 60 Average age of U. S. Senate is 65 The percentage of the U. S. Congressmen/women and Senators, combined, who are veterans, is 18.3. 28.5 year old women and men in uniform, being legislated by a Congress, 82% of whom never shouldered a ruck, carried a rifle or docked a guided missile Cruiser, must wonder why it is so surprising the U. S. Navy cannot adequately staff warships.
Sergeant Traver Pennell charged into a Fallujah house full of insurgents where several Marines fell wounded. Amidst small arms fire and grenades exploding, Pennell located a Marine shot in the face and carried him to safety outside of the house. He returned inside to search for more wounded, when one of the Marines from his squad was hit. Pennell returned fire and carried this Marine to safety outside the house as well. Pennell’s attacks drew the attention of the insurgents, allowing other Marines to mount an assault to take the house and rescue the other wounded. For his courage and dedication, Pennell was awarded the Silver Star. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “...serving as Squad Leader, Company I, Third Battalion, First Marines, in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM on 14 and 15 November 2004. Sergeant Pennell displayed unyielding personal courage while leading his attacking squad through sustained high intensity urban combat in south Fallujah, Iraq. As an adjacent squad entered a house occupied by nine fanatical insurgents, the squad came under heavy enemy fire and sustained numerous casualties. Demonstrating great presence of mind, he unhesitatingly led his squad in an assault into the house to assist his fellow Marines. Locating a Marine shot in the face, Sergeant Pennell, under intense grenade and small arms fire, rescued the Marine and carried him to safety. He immediately called for assistance and courageously re-entered the house with another Marine. With bullets impacting all around them, Sergeant Pennell directed his Marines to lay down suppressive fire as he searched for the remaining wounded. Immediately, the enemy PKM machine gun fire struck Sergeant Pennell's comrade. Ignoring this intense machine gun fire, he proceeded to suppress the enemy with lethally accurate fire of his own, rescue his fellow Marine and carry him to safety. Sergeant Pennell's multiple attacks and accurate fire repeatedly drew the enemy's attention and allowed a supporting attack from an adjacent platoon to clear the house and rescue the remaining wounded.“ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #battlesightzero #bzo #history #military #militaryhistory #veteran #veterans #america #usmc #marinecorps #marines #semperfi #semperfidelis #oif #operationiraqifreedom #silverstar

The 3rd Infantry Division is modernizing and transforming for the future even as it rises to meet the demands of today, including to deter Russian aggression and reassure U.S. partners and allies. “While in Europe [between September 2023 and May 2024], our mission was to train alongside our allies and partners to develop a credible, interoperable force capable of countering any adversary,” Maj. Gen. Christopher Norrie, commander of the 3rd Infantry Division, said during a Sept. 20 media roundtable. “By building that strength and team cohesion with our allies and partners, we improved our own warfighting mastery to ensure that we're disciplined, resilient, lethal and ready to fight and win against global threats.” #ReadMore: https://loom.ly/tztgRYI #AUSAorg #AUSA #USArmy #globalthreats #europe #infantry

This is a great read for possible employments of a Civil Affairs Task Force(CATF). This comes at a time where our military transitions away from counter-terror and counter-insurgency. There’s a high likelyhood our nation’s next big fight will be against near-peer adversaries as coalitions are formed to counter the west. If the Russo-Ukraine conflict is the blueprint, the CATF will be critical in safeguarding civilians, and critical infrastructure from both friendly and enemy military operations.
For those in my military circle, my friend Robert Schafer co-authored a great CALL analysis titled Civil Affairs Task Force: Conducting Stability Operations in the Division’s Rear Area During the Offense with Major Ryan Todd. Across our business, we have a strong heritage of developing advanced artillery capabilities for the U.S. military. From production of the propellant that backs the fire power for artillery by our team at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant, to our team who manufactures combat programs in the U.S. Army’s fleet, we know that responsive artillery maintains a prominent role in supporting maneuver forces and in ensuring options for the warfighter in multi-domain operations. It’s especially enhanced when you pair already-proven solutions together. “We have taken a combat-proven, mature technology and integrated it on the M109 to provide the Army an option to get after [its] range challenges and provide some tactical overmatch, once again, back to the field artillery.” Read more: http://baes.co/ryZz50Qy6zE. #CombatInnovation #Artillery #PrecisionGuidedMunitions

Very interesting insights for actual modern warfare.
The Marine Corps infantry has found an unlikely ally in a $9.95 unofficial website. Created by a retired lieutenant colonel, 2ndBn5thMar.com has become a hub for sharing tactical insights and best practices among Marines. Inspired by the conflict in Ukraine, a team of volunteers developed a detailed handbook and a series of "lessons for leaders" to guide Marines on how to fight in a modern, high-intensity environment. The documents cover topics such as drone warfare, anti-tank missile tactics, and the importance of tanks in the face of mechanized threats. While the website is unofficial, it has gained significant popularity among Marines seeking practical guidance beyond the traditional doctrine. The site's contributors believe that open discussion and sharing of experiences are essential for maintaining the Marine Corps' edge in a rapidly evolving battlefield. #marineinfantry #tacticalguidance #unofficialwebsite #militarydoctrine #ukrainesituation
