This webinar is titled “Total GIS for Pipeline Route Evaluation.” FREE to all AAEES Members. $40 fee for non-members. https://lnkd.in/gdF26iem The Peace River Manasota Regional Water Supply Authority (PRMRWSA) is expanding its regional interconnecting pipelines to serve the growing needs of its member utilities, customers, and partners.  As a component of this program Kimley-Horn was authorized to perform a Feasibility and Routing Study for the Regional Integrated Loop Phase 2B and 2C Pipelines Project. In performing this routing study, the goal was to make the evaluation and ranking of alternative routes through this largely urban area on the SW coast of Florida as objective and quantitative as possible.  The key was to establish non-direct cost criteria, that is, factors that do have a cost, but the cost is hard to define, and not directly related to construction, therefore identified as “non-direct” costs.  The team collected, combined, and evaluated GIS data from multiple sources (Sarasota County, Charlotte County, City of North Port, FDOT, SWFWMD, FDEP, and property appraisers) into a custom GIS database a GIS Total Model).  Field reconnaissance was performed to augment the GIS data with additional information not available in agency GIS data bases.  The possible route alternatives were prescreened and broken down into manageable route segments for detailed analysis.  Each segment was analyzed for intersections with pertinent GIS information and a calculated score for non-direct cost factors was determined for each segment as well as the comparative direct cost.  The individual segments were then combined into feasible routes providing maximum regional benefit.  The shortlisted routes were then ranked by the resulting score for regional benefit, non-direct cost, and direct cost.  The result was a robust and defensible quantitative analysis and ranking of alternatives for approval of the member utilities.  The development of a GIS Total Model and a quantitative approach to analyzing and assembling route segments provided a defensible selection of the most beneficial route for a new 42-inch potable water regional transmission main through a 32-mile urban alignment with a projected cost of over $200 million.   #boardcertified #environmentalengineering #environmentalscience #wastewater #pipeline #groundwater #wastewatertreatment

LDA Services performed data collection/surveying for the Cleeces Ferry Rehabilitation - Area 1. This project is part of Metro Water Services’ Clean Water Nashville Consent Decree Program and consists of the comprehensive rehabilitation of sewer mains, manholes and laterals within existing rights-of-way and easements. The survey portion of this project consisted of asset location and manhole inspections to determine materials, conditions and any defects. A unique aspect of this survey included the use of Fulcrum for streamlined data collection in the field. Fulcrum’s features include multimedia and detailed characterizations of field and asset conditions, allowing for a digitized approach to asset management and incorporation into the client’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS). #LDAServices #Survey #GIS #StrongerHappierCommunities

Hello Zimbabwe! The President has instructed all local authorities to have updated and operative master plans by June 30, 2024. All mapped datasets for the master plans are required to be in GIS format. GIS professionals are going to play a crucial role in this endeavor by providing planners (and engineers) with relevant spatial datasets and analyses. Here is my humble request to the GIS consultants who will be part of these teams: Please produce accurate datasets that can serve for the next 10 to 15 years. I once collaborated with a local authority that believed their data was on GIS, as mapped by a consultant. However, upon inspection, the datasets were a disaster. Please go the extra mile and avoid the consultant mentality of merely collecting payment and leaving behind unusable data. Given that most of our rural and small urban local authorities lack GIS sections, the datasets you are going to map will form the foundation. Create something foundational. While some may argue that master plans don't require accuracy because they're printed at a small scale, I beg to differ: there is vector data you're submitting. Why not ensure boundaries, roads, wetlands, etc., are accurately represented? Local authorities, please remain vigilant. Do not accept subpar datasets. The datasets produced will have implications beyond master plan approval—they are a significant investment. #GIS #SpatialPlanning #DataAccuracy #MasterPlans
