🌟 Delighted to share key insights from the recent 2024 New Zealand Society for Earthquake Engineering (NZSEE) Annual Technical Conference, featuring Clara Caponi, Associate Engineer – Building & Structures! 🎙️🌏 Clara discussed the current New Zealand Building Emergency Framework and provided an overview of the current international best-practice, also considering exemplar overseas frameworks. She illustrated a possible pathway to improve the New Zealand Post-Earthquake Emergency Management for built Heritage. The creation of new emergency response procedures specific to heritage places will allow New Zealand to gain a world-leading position not only for the seismic design of new structures but also for Post-Disaster Response management of its historic and heritage Building. 💹🏛️ 💬 Clara noted, “It was fantastic to see the compelling response from the engineering community towards Disaster Response and Recovery Strategy themes. An impressive number of professionals attended my session, with people even standing at the back of the theatre room. This testifies the relevance of the topics covered in my paper for the current engineering practice and the willing of our community to improve New Zealand Post-Earthquake Emergency Management for built Heritage." Excitingly, she is now collaborating with the New Zealand Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment (MBIE) and Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga (HNZPT) to implement some of the strategies and items proposed in her paper. Stay tuned for updates! 🚀 #NZSEEConference #HeritageBuilding #EmergencyManagement #Resilience

Did you know💭 There could be as much as a 95% reduction in lorry movements in and out of construction sites by re-using materials on-site! The impact is huge - a reduction in transportation CO2, road traffic noise, congestion and damages to the infrastructure. An important point raised by Jim Webster at the AGS - Association of Geotechnical & Geoenvironmental Specialists Annual Conference 2024. #ACSW #geotechnical #geoenvironmental #earthworks

Thanks to the #inflationreductionact, the Bureau of Land Management has funding to implement meaningful and effective #habitatrestoration projects on #publicland. In Wyoming, we are putting those dollars to work in the Upper Green River Basin. Learn more about how this project is inspired by nature's engineer, the beaver, in the video.

We've recently added seven new Key Resource Areas (KRAs) to the 167 current sites in Queensland crucial for our state's development. These locations contain extractive resources like sand, gravel, rock, clay, and soil necessary for construction, infrastructure development and post-disaster recovery. KRAs are an essential planning tool designed to protect these resources from becoming inaccessible due to urban expansion. Queensland produces around 50 million tonnes of the resources annually. The new KRAs, plus extensions to two existing areas, will protect an additional 985 million tonnes for the future, replacing depleted resources and supporting the needs of our growing communities. You can view Queensland's KRAs using GeoResGlobe 👉 https://lnkd.in/eM--s9P

SAICE Structural Division webinar The George Building Collapse – The role of engineers in disaster response DetailsTeams from multiple organisations provided resources including sniffer dogs, trained professionals, specialised rescue tools and much more. Many heroic responders braved going into small holes to rescue trapped individuals. In the background civil and structural engineers tried to provide input on how to stabilise the structure, where to access voids, how to keep teams safe and when personnel had to pulled out of areas due to safety concerns. This talk will also ask: how can engineering professionals support rescue efforts in the future? Richard Walls Jane Gachuche Muchaneta Mavambe Nyiratuza Shakira
