The new statue has open eyes, symbolising that "justice is no longer blind" and the sword in her hand has been replaced with the Constitution. This change reflects the recent overhaul of British-era laws in the country, as the Indian judiciary embraces a new identity. 𝐀𝐏𝐉 𝐀𝐛𝐝𝐮𝐥 𝐊𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐦’s birth anniversary, I feel a deep sense of gratitude for having had the rare opportunity to meet and converse with such an extraordinary human being in January 2015 at the sesquicentenary celebration of St. Paul's Cathedral Mission College under Calcutta University, Kolkata. Felicitating him was more than an honour— a brief moment that profoundly influenced my outlook on life and has left a life-long impact. 𝑯𝒆𝒓𝒆'𝒔 𝒉𝒐𝒘 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒇𝒍𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒅- On being felicitated, he smiled and said - "Thank you, dear" I said, "It's my pleasure, Sir! It's a big moment for me." Him - "What is your name?" Me - "Arpan Bandhu Majumder, Sir." Him- "Arpan, right? That's a nice name, what are you studying here?" Me - "English Honours 2nd year, Sir" He placed a gentle pat on my shoulder, he said - "Very good subject! You will learn a lot about life and people. All the best!" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I was awestruck by his genuine curiosity and desire to inspire young minds in such a short time. In his speech addressed to the students, Dr. Kalam’s words were not just about science and technology, but about dreaming big and working tirelessly to achieve those dreams and doing something meaningful for your country. Dr. Kalam’s legacy extends beyond his role as a scientist or the People's President—he was, and still is, a guiding light for millions who aspire to contribute to our nation's progress. Today, as we remember him on his birth anniversary, let's focus on collective growth, perseverance, integrity, and innovation. 𝐃𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐚 𝐏𝐮𝐣𝐚 𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐰 𝐛𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐚 𝐟𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐡, 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐣𝐨𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐞𝐰 𝐝𝐚𝐲𝐬, 𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐠𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬. 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐛𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫. Today, I want to share the story of 𝐌𝐞𝐠𝐡𝐧𝐚𝐝, a young boy who has been coming to our neighborhood's Durga Puja for the last 4 years with his grandfather, father, and uncle. They are traditional drummers (Dhaaki) from Pantiya village in Birbhum district. Meghnad, now in class eight, is already skilled at playing the brass cymbals, though his strict grandfather insists he practices playing dhaak daily. Since the Puja Pandal is right in front of my house, I often saw him sitting quietly, sometimes playing along with the rhythm, sometimes gazing at the goddess. The other kids around him, all dressed in new clothes, were busy playing and bursting crackers, while he quietly watched. I had wanted to take him shopping for new clothes, but between spending time with friends and family, I couldn't find the time. Yesterday, I called him over and asked how he was doing and if he had hopped pandals. Smiling, he said he was fine and had only seen the only one at our pandal. I invited him to come along with me, and we visited a few nearby Puja pandals. Then, I took him to a shopping mall and told him to pick something he liked. He hesitated and kept saying, "You choose something for me." After a bit of nudging, he selected a shirt and jeans, and I added a Spider-Man-themed T-shirt as a surprise, Marvel Studios being my favourite. As we were returning, Meghnad said with a beaming smile, "This Puja, I didn't have any new clothes, but now I do." Hearing that brought mixed emotions—joy, but also a sense of regret that I should have done it earlier. As we rode back, he happily gave detailed directions to his home in Birbhum, describing how to find his grandfather Mahadev's house in the village called Pantiya. Today, they will return to Birbhum, and I, too, have returned to Kolkata for work. Perhaps we’ll meet again next year. We greet each other saying Shubo Bijoya. This year, my Bijoya was made Special or Shubho with Meghnad. Thanks to Little Treats, I’ve learned and am still learning to see and appreciate the small moments of joy and happiness in others’ lives.
