Hospitality Careers Hospitality is a vast industry that spans across the globe, making significant contributions to the economy. In 2022, the industry added a remarkable 8.6 trillion USD to the global economy. Did you know that the word "hospitality" originates from the Latin term "hospitalitas," meaning 'friendliness to guests'? This sector plays a crucial role in enhancing customer retention, building brand reputation, and offering a fulfilling career path. Interestingly, the world houses an astonishing number of 82 Chained branded hotels, showcasing the industry's diversity. Companies like Hilton and Marriott were recognized as some of the best places to work in 2023, reflecting the industry's appeal. Despite the abundant resources and training provided by these hospitality giants, there seems to be a challenge in promoting talent from within their ranks. Exploring job opportunities on platforms like LinkedIn reveals over six thousand mid-senior to executive-level positions within the big 4 brands—Hilton, IHG, Accor, and Marriott—available in just the past month. This raises the question: why do these esteemed brands struggle to develop talent internally despite their extensive training programs? The allure of the hospitality sector lies in its promise of experiencing diverse cultures and unique opportunities worldwide. However, the reality for top-tier employees often involves regional constraints that hinder mobility, leading to potential talent loss. This raises doubts about whether these brands truly uphold their commitment to internal development or if there's more to the story. Something i have experienced and many colleagues have also. The recruitment of employees is very much like the merry go round of the transfer market in sports. Clubs spend on youth and develop, yet from the academy only 1-2% make the top tier while the rest ride the market. Having worked across various regions both with Independent and brands, I have cherished the enriching experiences the hospitality industry offers. As I continue my journey, I ponder: are these renowned brands truly delivering on their promises, or is there a disconnect between rhetoric and reality? #HospitalityIndustry #GlobalEconomy #CareerDevelopment #EmployeeRetention #careers #hospitality https://lnkd.in/eGYDsf5p
