High belonging was linked to a whopping 56% increase in job performance, a 50% drop in turnover risk, and a 75% reduction in sick days. For a 10,000-person company, this would result in annual savings of more than $52M. (Havard Business Review, The Value of Belonging at Work, 2019) Organisations can take steps to create cultures where every employee feels like they belong. 🗺 The future is not about # ERGs for each diverse group, it can't be, we could have 1000's if this was the case. The future is about recognising that everyone is unique, and creating an environment where individuals can explore and celebrate their uniqueness. This is what will bring true #engagement, #innovation, #diversity #trust and #loyalty. Step 1: Create channels for leaders to understand who they truly are, only then will leaders see the true value in this process. Step 2: Teach leaders the practical know-how to build 'belonging' into their teams and everyday work. On Wednesday 2nd October, @GE Aerospace held Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Celebrations across the globe. Here at the Cheltenham site employees were invited to attend a celebratory event showcasing our Employee Resource Groups. This was a great opportunity for employees to understand more about these groups; what they do and how to get involved. Employees also had the opportunity to share what DE&I means to them and why it is so important, by placing their thoughts on cards to hang on our DE&I tree. Following the lunchtime celebration, Cheltenham featured in the DE&I panel discussion ‘Embracing our Differences’ with a focus on Neurodiversity. As HR Leaders Kathleen McCarthy and Steven Howery joined us in person in Cheltenham, it made for a very thought-provoking discussion. Streaming live from our collaboration suite, Steven moderated the discussion, with panelist's Kathleen, John Haigh - Programmes Director and Rahel Morten - Value Stream Leader and DE&I focal for Cheltenham participating. It was great to hear from these leaders their thoughts on what DE&I means to them and why it is important to recognise and support individuals in the workplace. Rahel shared during the discussion on how all employees should feel comfortable in being their true selves at work. For this to happen, we need to foster an environment whereby employees are comfortable to ask for support if they are neurodivergent, without fear of being treated differently. This enables diverse teams of thought to thrive, improving innovation and productivity. With our focus on Neurodiversity, there will be more lots more to come at Cheltenham.
